Position Summary:
The Technical Accounting Expert will be responsible for technical accounting research, evaluating and implementing new accounting standards, maintaining or creating accounting policies, and providing information and problem resolution to management. This role will also supervise the preparation of required internal management and financial accounting reports, required GAAP financial statements, and other SEC filings. This position takes the initiative to highlight accounting issues and project opportunities.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform accounting research of accounting issues, new accounting standards, peer comparisons, and assist management to resolve accounting questions and issues. Document the research and results coherently and concisely in memos.
  • Responsible for the completion of certain financial objectives which may include providing support in filing public documents with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), managing Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) compliance, and assisting with preparation or review of various quarterly and year-end disclosures. Responsible for ensuring the financial statements are consistent with U.S GAAP and SEC rules, which includes the completion of any required checklists.
  • Work closely with accounting management and accounting team members to ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate across various functions in the organization including marketing, finance, operations, land, corporate reservoir, planning, and legal.
  • Involvement in review of contracts and oversight of contract collection and review process. This includes the monitoring of contracts to ensure compliance with GAAP accounting.
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of Financial Reporting personnel or other departments as needed. Responsible for mentoring others in department and education of employees for technical matters.
  • Ability to collect and analyze financial information to recommend or develop efficient use of resources and procedures, provide strategic recommendations and maintain solutions to problems.
  • Assist external and internal auditors and help to maintain compliance with internal controls.
  • Ability to analyze accounting records, financial statements or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness or to provide advice.
  • Working knowledge of all financial systems used within the company to provide support or be able to research questions from all levels and areas within the company.
  • May provide support in certain accounting areas including equity, leases, and income tax provision.
  • Special projects as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Education: Bachelors or Masters in Accounting or Finance
Minimum Experience: 10+ years of experience with a Bachelors or 7+ years of experience with a Masters.

Professional Certifications/Training Preferred: Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Oil & Gas Exp Required: Preferred
