The Financial Administrator assists with all aspects of the departmental budget and grant funding and supports the Senior Financial Administrator to oversee discretionary, operating and service center accounts. This role will have semi-independent decision making responsibility, provide department's pre and post grant award management, including direct responsibility for all grant related budget preparation and reports. In the category of Department budget administration, responsibilities include but are not limited to maintaining and monitoring departmental budget using electronic spreadsheet, preparing budget modifications and processing fund transfers, preparing financial statements and reports, adjusting salaries, and develop audit recommendations as needed. Grant funding administration includes supporting preparation of budgets for federal agencies and non-federal agencies, reviewing level reports and budget analyses, meeting with faculty to review personnel effort levels, managing funded research accounts for proper allocations, tracking expenditures from Start Up Fund accounts, setting up subawards using Contraxx system, preparing documents for no-cost extensions, supplementals and progress and closing reports, and serving as the administrator for the Vincent System. Responsibilities also include developing business plans for the service center accounts, approving expenditures, monitoring and analyzing 03 and 04 accounts. This position requires the appropriate application of broad knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of accounting, research budgeting and research award administration. The incumbent is expected to work with minimal supervision and be able to manage, prioritize and coordinate multiple activities and projects. Knowledge of budget preparation and management are essential. Effective oral and written skills are required. Ability to maintain confidentiality is a must. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is imperative. Two years of experience with Departmental and/or research accounting. This position requires the appropriate application of broad knowledge of the principles and procedures of accounting, research budgeting, and pre- and post-research award grant administration.

Bachelor's Degree in accounting or related discipline and 2 years of related experience. A combination of education and experience can be considered in lieu of education requirement. Two years of direct accounting/finance applicable experience preferred, with at least one year in a University setting comparable to the University of Pittsburgh preferred. Must have command of accounting software, databases, Excel and Word software.
