ABOUT THE ROLE
  • Prepare and review JEs reflecting proper accounting treatment consistent with Group Accounting policies and Accounting guidelines.
  • Apply sound Accounting principles and judgment in recording of entries and critical review of entries within the system.
  • Assist in month-end close process including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliation, review of accounts, preparation of accruals, and ensure cut-offs for month-end are observed and reported in correct months.
  • Prepare schedules as assigned for monthly and year-end Financial Statements including supporting schedules for Group reporting pack.
  • Review Balance Sheet and P&L accounts during month to determine appropriateness of entries, accruals and re-classes required, and entries meet accounting requirements.
  • Document processes and evaluate controls
  • Perform cost accounting procedures, analysing, and executing related transactions
  • Analyse and review and recommend requests from the business for entries to determine appropriate or not.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts to ensure balance sheet stated in accordance with Group accounting policies, anomalous transactions and trends are identified and recommendations communicated to management.
  • Prepare, record, and review inter-company transactions including Sundry with other OUP branches ensuring accurate and timely recording of expenses.
  • Serve as resource to the business for explaining and interpreting accounting policy, and explaining, analysing, and reviewing variance and fluctuations.
  • Take lead in mentoring and coaching other team members.
  • Assist with external audit, internal audit, and hub control processes as assigned.
  • Provide support and cover to management as needed for special projects and new business processes.
  • Contribute to the overall goals and objectives of the Academic division and Academic Finance team.
  • Work effectively as part of the Academic Finance team, the Academic Division and across the wider OUP group. Maintain good communication with management raising any issues/problems/time pressures as soon as appropriate.


ABOUT YOU
  • 4-year degree; major in Accounting/Business/Finance preferred or equivalent business experience.
  • 3-5 years related business experience to include JE preparation, financial statement preparation, and month-end close.
  • Experience using ERP system, SAP preferred
  • Excellent spreadsheet skills i.e., Power Pivot, VBA Macros, Complex Formula understanding.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Can manage a complex workload with multiple deadlines and stakeholders
  • Self-starter and able to work independently.
  • Initiative and ability to implement new ideas successfully.


Location: The position is located in Cary, NC on a hybrid basis.
