What you will do

In this vital role, as a Data Analytics Sr Manager, you will work closely with the Hyperion Planning, Anaplan Planning, and Reporting & Analytics parts of the FIT team to provide systems, dataflow and data analytics expertise/support for all applications that the FIT team owns or interacts with. In addition to supporting day-to-day FIT operations and project work in these areas, this position will also play a key consulting role as part of Amgen's transformational ADI initiative and evolution into a "sensing organization." As a member of the FIT (Financial Insights & Technology) team within Corporate Finance, this position will report to the FIT Director.

The FIT team was created to:

  • Maintain and build upon the work/improvements enabled by the Delivering Financial Insights (DFI) initiative
  • Implement standardized reporting capabilities, implement and maintain policies, processes and systems needed to drive an efficient and effective reporting environment
  • Explore new ways to evolve planning and reporting, in the spirit of continuous improvement, to improve financial insights and decision-making across not only global finance but Amgen as a whole.

The position offers a great opportunity to gain insight into the financial profile of the entire organization and strategies across all of Amgen's business functions. This role will offer many opportunities for cross-functional engagements, as well as exposure to the global finance organization. The position is best suited for someone who is excited about improving the way we do finance at Amgen, who is open to learning new technologies, and who has a proven track record of change management.

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Finance experience

Or

Master's degree and 4 years of Finance experience

Or

Bachelor's degree and 6 years of Finance experience

Or

Associate's degree and 10 years of Finance experience

Or

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Finance experience

Preferred Analytical & Technical Experience:

  • Deep knowledge of Amgen's ecosystem of financial systems, data and finance-/accounting-related business processes
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to draw strategic insights and effectively summarize and present insight based on the needs of the audience
  • Knowledge and experience in managing large and complex data sets
  • Comfort working with financial statements (U.S. GAAP)
  • Able to develop and think critically about approaches to solving large, complex quantitative problems
  • Able to be hypothesis-driven and gather necessary pieces of data to prove/disprove hypotheses
  • Is creative, tenacious, and resourceful in problem-solving. Is able to offer multiple approaches and appropriately execute the right level of detail and granularity for the problem/audience at hand
  • Able to draw strategic insight from analyses and effectively summarize and present insights based on the needs of the audience
  • Highly proficient with Excel and MS Office Suite, with demonstrated skill in automating and scaling up analyses across large data sets. Experience with Hyperion / SAP/ Business Objects is a must.
  • Experience with Tableau preferred
  • Ability to see beyond the detail to see the 'big picture', especially as it relates to providing useful solutions for our finance colleagues

  • Compelling and persuasive communicator (verbal and written) with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated track record of being a team player and providing versatility and flexibility to a team
  • Able to take ownership of processes/analyses where data may be unclear/ambiguous and drive them to completion
  • Able to adjust communications and messaging based on the seniority level of the audience
