Reporting to the President/CEO, the Finance Manager will lead all day-to-day finance operations in a nonprofit environment including functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and grants administration. The Finance Manager will oversee the accounting and finance department, prepare the annual operating and capital budgets, is involved in risk management of the organization, and is the key liaison to the Clubs audit, finance, and the Foundations Investment Committees. As a member of Senior Management will participate in the strategic planning and management of the organization, attend BCGGSD Board Meetings, Executive Committee Meetings, Foundation Board Meetings, reviews real estate transactions, and obtains insurance certificates.


Function Name/Tasks


  1. Ensure all current safety protocols are being adhered to: adults are wearing face coverings, social distancing, frequent hand washing, etc.


  1. Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures; protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls; monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting internal audits; providing information to external auditors.
  2. The Finance Manager is responsible for leading the accounting and finance department on month end close and subsequently providing timely monthly financials to the CEO.
  3. Maximizes return, and limits risk, on cash by minimizing bank balances; making investments; manage and track the performance of invested assets in keeping with established policies and investment guidelines.
  4. Liaison to the Board of Directors Audit and Finance Committees and the Foundations Investment Committee.
  5. Review general ledger for proper recognition of revenue, expenses, liability and net assets; prepares monthly closing entries including journal entries, general ledger account and bank reconciliations in a timely manner.
  6. Manage all audit activity; ensure compliance with local, state and federal financial reporting requirements.
  7. Ensure filing dates for disclosure of new vendors, sales taxes, and 1099 to the appropriate government entities are met.
  8. Analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, bi-monthly, and annual financial statements, monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of the Clubs financial status.
  9. Maintains all banking relationships and banking documentation.
  10. Review accounting processes, at a minimum semi-annually, to ensure best practices and the established processes are still sound.


  1. Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans.
  2. Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  3. Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
  4. Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  5. Develops budgetary controls and procedures; prepares annual operating, capital, and campaign budgets in conjunction with senior staff; inputs monthly budget figures for all programs, departments, and locations in the accounting system.


  1. As administrator of the Clubs web-based payroll timekeeping application and payroll system provides oversight to the Payroll Specialist by approving bi-monthly payroll; Backup liaison for staff on payroll/timekeeping systems; processing manual payroll/special checks.
  2. Oversees all grants accounting; ensuring that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant budgets; prepare financial reporting materials for all government and capital grants; prepare all programmatic reports for capital grants.
  3. The Finance Manager meets regularly with the Grants Compliance Team to ensure that grants are reported to funders in an accurate and timely manner.


  1. Oversees all aspects of recruitment and development of accounting staff.
  2. Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.
  3. Maintains financial staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.


  1. Member of senior management and all associated planning and strategizing efforts.
  2. Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; advising management on needed actions.
  3. Ensures operation of equipment by establishing preventive maintenance requirements and service contracts; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  4. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  5. Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
  6. Serves as backup to VP Operations for all IT/Internet issues; reviews real estate transactions; in conjunction with the President/CEO oversees commercial insurance needs and certificates.
  7. Attends board/foundation/executive committee meetings.
  8. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.


  1. Bachelors Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related discipline. (Required)
  2. Masters in Business Administration or accounting designation (CPA) is preferred.
  3. Minimum of five (5) years experience in accounting and finance. (Required)
  4. Non-profit accounting is preferred
  5. Knowledge of theory and practice in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards and the standards set for financial audits contained in the Government Auditing Standards and U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Uniform Guidance 2 CFR 200, California Department of Education Audit Guide as well as any other current and applicable, federal, state, local or programmatic audit requirements. (Required)
  6. Demonstrated experience with grant management and reporting; state grants experience a plus. (Preferred)
  7. Minimum of five (3) years of management experience leading an accounting and finance team. (Required)
  8. Skill to analyze and prepare budgets, identify spending patterns, and project future expenditures. Proven ability to analyze complex financial issues, recognize potential impact, identify creative and alternative solutions, and make recommendations. (Required)
  9. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; impeccable analytical and organizational skills; self-motivated and self-directed. (Required)
  10. Proven ability to work independently, to establish and revise priorities to meet shifting deadlines, and to prioritize and organize workload to meet multiple deadlines. (Required)
  11. Advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software, particularly Abila MIP, and proficiency using Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. (Required)
  12. Verified experience to analyze data and identify patterns and trends and capture data from a variety of sources and merge together for analysis and reporting purposes. (Required)
  13. Established supervisory skills to recruit, train and assign work, conduct performance evaluations, and manage performance. Clearly communicate job expectations, mediate conflicts, conduct staff meetings, design development, and training programs, employ organization and team-building techniques. (Required)
  14. Aptitude to assess situations to determine the importance, urgency, and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization (Required)
  15. Proficiency to determine strategies to move the organization forward, set goals, create and implement actions plans, and evaluates the process and results. (Required)
