Job Summary

The City of Salem is now recruiting for a skilled and talented individual to manage projects, including planning, coordinating and oversight of complex building improvements, new construction, and tenant improvement renovation projects.

Facilities Services Division manages building operations and maintenance, tenant improvements, major renovations and new construction to more than 90 City facilities, totaling 2.2 million square feet. Project Leader II's are responsible for coordinating the work of both City staff and contractors with a wide range of disciplines engaged in providing these services. As a Project Leader II, with or without assigned facilities staff, you will engage with customers to determine the best solution to their requests through scope identification, design and contract management skills. This position also prepares space utilization needs and workspace layouts for customers, while ensuring the designs meet all requirements for construction; monitor project during construction for contract and building code compliance. For building systems projects, such as HVAC or electrical, you will ensure compliance with operational specifications requirements and identify, apply for, and obtain energy incentives. Your role in this highly skilled classification will have a great deal of flexibility for how to perform your duties while managing multiple projects simultaneously.

What are the minimum qualifications?
  • Must pass the pre-employment background check
  • Must have an Oregon Driver license and meet the City of Salem's driving standards.
  • High school graduate or G.E.D., and five (5) years of journey-level experience in building or facilities construction and maintenance fields; two of the five years must have included experience designing, planning, scheduling, or coordinating facility remodeling and construction projects, or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
  • Must pass criminal background check necessary to obtain Criminal Justice Information System clearance and Law Enforcement Data System certification within 30 days of hire, depending on area of assignment (clearance must be maintained throughout employment).
Preferred Qualifications, but not required:
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management or related field;
  • Experience using AutoCad or similar drafting software
