This program will rotate students thru the 3 primary divisions of the Facilities Construction Group - Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation. The students will be mentored by construction supervisors representing each discipline and will gain exposure to facility construction projects from start to finish while troubleshooting and coordinating efforts with other construction personnel.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Interact with facility engineer assigned to a new construction project to understand project scope, budget quality estimate, prepare and participate in FE walk-though inspection and follow-up
  • Learn how to plan, coordinate, supervise, inspect the construction, testing and commissioning of facilities on schedule. Help prepare for project kick-off meetings. Help prepare schedules, project budgets and updates
  • Learn how facilities are constructed, inspected and tested as designed
  • Learn to read and understand Flow and P&ID diagrams and design drawings
  • Assist construction supervisors in ensuring that the materials selected by engineers is on site on schedule. Upon Material Delivery - inspect parts to ensure quality specs are met
  • Understand operation of safety systems - ESD activation, safety shut down devices set points, cause and effect table and electrical classification drawing
  • Gain an understanding of contractor performance expectations
  • Understand and comply with company safety policies
  • Assist in completing assured competency check sheet during the facility inspection with operations personnel
  • Monitor all required records related to construction, testing and commissioning of facilities are kept
  • Monitor that facilities are properly signed, secure and final clean up
  • Learn proper loading and unloading of and storage of equipment
  • Interact with facility engineer assigned to a new construction project to understand project scope, budget quality estimate, prepare and participate in FE walk-though inspection and follow-up
  • Learn about the design and coordinate installation of onsite instrument and communications and interfaces - Wireless, hard wire, SCADA, cignet, power systems, grounding systems
