Job Description:

The Events specialist is assigned a portfolio of Fulbright Enrichment programs, including activities that fall under the Fulbright Student and/or the Fulbright Scholar Programs. The Events specialist is expected to play an expert leadership role on the Events team, serving as resource to Events Project Managers and identifying process improvements for the benefit of the department. This role will have additional responsibility for sponsor communication, and subcontractor monitoring for the portfolio. Fulbright Events advance the mission of the Fulbright program by connecting Fulbright Students, Scholars and Professionals with concepts and people in their host countries and with each other. Fulbright Events provide professional development, academic success, and cultural experiences that are the highlight of their Fulbright experiences.

Essential Functions:

  • In support of Assistant Director, Operations and Strategy, develops and manages operational processes including financial reconciliation, data stewardship, and technology in support of in-person and virtual event delivery.
  • Provides mentorship and guidance to Events team members who work on projects within the assigned portfolio; develops and conducts trainings to support the team.
  • Manages enrichment activities of the assigned portfolio, including the RFP process, seminar design, subcontractor monitoring, and sponsor communication. Specialist will serve as project manager for high-profile and complex projects as assigned.
  • Establishes annual calendar, timetables, events, and processes for portfolio of programs.
  • Manages the four key areas on all assigned subcontracted events including: solicitation of enrichment program applications from qualified organizations; organization of review panels to assess applications; management of institutional grants; and program reporting and assessment.
  • Ensures appropriate compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Represents IIE at enrichment events, liaising with sponsors, program partners and participants.


The Institute of International Education ("IIE") has a hybrid work environment that allows team members a combination of in-office work and telework at any of the locations listed above.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree and at least five years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated success in community engagement roles and/or managing annual funds for a non-profit organization preferred.
  • History of experience with engaging alumni or other affiliated groups that closely identify with or relate to the mission of IIE preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to craft compelling messages.
  • Familiarity with planned giving marketing and vehicles is preferred.
