We are seeking an engineer to join our Global Product Compliance team to ensure MSAs life-saving products meet global safety and regulatory requirements. MSA is the global leader in the development, manufacture and supply of sophisticated, innovative safety products that protect people and facility infrastructures. Many MSA products integrate a combination of electronics, mechanical systems and advanced materials to protect users against hazardous or life-threatening situations. This position reports to the Global Engineering Manager, Product Compliance and will be responsible for the following:

  • Lead and support standards and regulation compliance activities for MSA products
  • Monitor and communicate internal and external trends that relate to potential standards, regulatory, and compliance changes
  • Work directly with external parties such as notified bodies, testing laboratories and government agencies as necessary depending on product group
  • Contribute to the alignment of marketing, engineering, and compliance activities on assigned projects and/or product groups
  • Proactively guide engineering project teams in support of new innovative product development. Be accountable for ensuring product designs meet global agency, standards, and regulatory requirements and obtain certifications per plan
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement in processes and tools related to product compliance and certification management, including development of best practices, templates, and reports
  • Work closely with engineering teams as well as third party laboratories to support preparation of samples, development of test plans, and testing of MSA products.
  • Troubleshoot and make recommendations on product design, technical explanations, and/or standards interpretation where needed throughout the product development and certification processes
  • Review compliance impact of new and modified designs, including review and recommendations related to engineering documentation submitted to third parties. Ensure product modifications are compliant and approved, updating certifications as needed.
  • Provide support to all certification and department related activities regardless of product group, which may include but is not limited to agency audits, production line requirements, and customer service

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant engineering discipline, preferably from an ABET accredited program
  • This position is available at three different career levels based upon experience:
    • Level one: at least two years relevent experience
    • Level two: at least three years relevent experience
    • Level three: at least five years relevent experience
    • Note: MS degree may be substituted for up to 2 years of relevent experience

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Degree in second engineering discipline (Electrical, Chemical, or Industrial)
  • Experience in obtaining product, quality, and/or process certifications via third parties
  • Experience in product testing and/or product performance evaluation to standards
  • Product design experience with safety products or other regulated products
  • Quality management experience (such as document control, auditing, or continuous improvement)
  • Experience with product safety standards and regulations such as NFPA, ANSI, 42 CFR Part 84, EN, CSA or similar
  • Participation in standards development committees
