Position Summary

The Process Controls Engineer is responsible for providing technical support to both improve and maintain the facilities Process Control Automation by leveraging their skills in Process Optimization, Design and Troubleshooting.

Essential Job Functions

  • Designs, develops and implements Advanced Process Control Applications; improves chemical processes with emphasis in controls, electronics and automation
  • Utilizes Process knowledge to tune new and existing control loops; optimizes process automation
  • Joins with site leadership to develop mid and long term process control network strategies
  • Understands and shares industry best practices, equipment options and proven strategies for Control Systems and Advanced Process Control Applications
  • Proactively identifies opportunities for process improvement, variability reduction and cost reduction
  • Provides technical support for automation projects. Identifies, analyzes, and implements continuous improvement projects
  • Proposes changes to existing methods, procedures, processes, and equipment; ensures quality production at the lowest possible total cost
  • Works with plant operating personnel to troubleshoot plant operational issues associated with PLCs, DCS or SIS related process control and automation
  • Implements modifications for minor capital projects, expense projects and maintenance work
  • Maintains and manages all SIS, DCS, PLC, VFD, HMI and data collection data bases and programs
  • Serves as a business resource for projects to install and apply new process control technology and methods, documentation and training
  • Works on Continuous Improvement Projects as identified or needed, areas of emphasis include: manufacturing cost reduction, capacity improvements/cycle time reductions, energy and waste reduction, and process reliability through automation and Alarm Rationalization
  • Provides project and technical leadership (including training) for local and system-wide process control technology applications and DCS Technicians
  • Abides by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participates in appropriate safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of EHSS principles and values; champions safety
  • Performs other duties assigned by management that generally fall within the expected scope of this position

Experience & KSAs Required

  • Process Safety Lifecycle for SIS System, Networking and Process Control Networks.
  • Modbus, Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus,
  • Foxboro EVO DCS
  • Triconex/Trident SIS for SIL Rated Process Safety Management (Maintain SIL3)
  • Rockwell
  • Bentley Nevada
  • ABB Fire and Gas / ABB Star Analyzer
  • PLCs (Allen Bradley) (Siemens)
  • Alarm Management
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; ability to use database systems and other programs and applications used by this position and at Company
  • Fluent in English language including reading, writing and speaking; ability to read and write at a minimum of high school level; ability to clearly communicate to all levels in organization

Education Requirement

  • Bachelors degree in I/E or chemical engineering is preferred or 10 plus years of equivalent industry experience

This position requires an employee to be in an office environment, outside, and exposed to various chemicals and compounds, including fumes and smells, some of them hazardous. The employee may enter confined spaces and work in elevated environments. Employee may experience range of temperatures from -10 degrees F to 100+ degrees F when outside. Employee must be able to wear PPE required by the location. General office noise may be experienced and louder sounds and vibrations when outside. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. All environments are safe with appropriate PPE.
