POSITION TITLE: DISTRICT TECHNICAL SUPPORT MANAGER



REPORTS TO: DISTRICT DIRECTOR



PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:



District Technical Support Managers are responsible for assisting the District Service sales and management resources in any activities necessary to promote the sale and support of repairs, retrofits, lifting equipment, modernizations and consultation services. In addition, this position is expected to collaborate with District Sales Engineers to advance our customers' knowledge of Konecranes products and solutions.


  • Assist in all service related technical opportunities by providing guidance to all Branch locations when requested.
  • Provide expertise in the development of pre-packaged retro-fits of Konecranes equipment.
  • Support District strategy to advance growth in engineered modernizations by assisting the sales process in field application, installation and sub-contractor selection of all modernization projects.
  • Communicate and consult with the field organization in the development of specifications for lead generation and conceptual discussions for the advancement of Konecranes products and services.
  • Increase the effectiveness and efficiency of all major project activities using communication, technical expertise and organizational skills to achieve customer satisfaction and the financial goals of the District business unit.
  • Coordinate all Engineered Modernization project management activities during each stage of the assigned orders, including pre-production (scope definition), planning (including activities with sequencing schedules), production (budget management and resource allocation) and project installation (in coordination with the customer, sub-contractors and frontline service organization).
  • Develop timeline schedules using Microsoft Project software to share with the customer and to be used internally to manage resources.
  • Develop and work with new resources (subcontractor manufacturers and installers) for best possible delivery and cost with a Regional focus.
  • Maintain cost sheets and continuously monitor cost versus estimate on each Installation to manage overall budget forecast.
  • Visit manufacturing resources in-house and outside subcontractors to ensure product delivery and quality including FAT requirements.
  • Maintain continuous dialog with customers (internal & external) with updates on the status of all key milestones for all assigned projects.
  • Review and make recommendations on contract documents, scopes of supply and sales documents prior to submittal to the customer on SP22M projects.
  • Assist Konecranes sales team when requested in product introductions and Lunch & Learns to advance lead generation in your District.
  • At the request of Management, provide field support and supervision for major projects and/or activities not related to Engineered Modernizations.
  • Assist the local branch resources on proper scope, sales activities, presentations and ultimately project management of Crane Reliability Study ("CRS") services with responsibility for growth initiatives, management and operational aspects of "CRS" resources and activities (including its separable and individual aspects) within the territory assigned.
  • Provide custodial care, distribution and maintenance of all Konecranes specialized tooling and equipment. (Rail Q RoboRail, Rope Q device, et al)



REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of five-years technical expertise in electrical, mechanical and field installations relating to the overhead crane industry required. Must be able to read mechanical and electrical prints, process technical information and provide technical instructions. Must have the aptitude to learn at fast pace. Must have demonstrated leadership experience, well-developed "people" skills, a basic understanding of mechanical and electrical principles, good written and verbal communication skills and good PC skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel and Word.



OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Travel estimated at 60% to meet with customers and perform project management, sales support or other duties. Must have and maintain a good driving record, including a valid driver's license. Must be willing and able to work at heights. Must show ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. Must be comfortable in a fast pace, growth-oriented environment. Must show commitment to safety.



EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering is preferred and/or equivalent experience in the crane industry suggesting, designing and evaluating solutions to customer issues on process equipment.
