Position Summary

The primary responsibility of this position is maintaining an effective student recruitment program that will result in an increase in the number of qualified applicants to Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine. This position will also serve a secondary role as an educator to currently enrolled SCPM students and administrative duties and committee service the Scholl College and University.

Excellent interpersonal skills; including strong communication skills and effective consensus-driven decision-making practices, are required for this position. The successful candidate must also demonstrate strong professional integrity, a reputation for fairness and flexibility, and share our commitment to expand and strengthen diversity in healthcare.

Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFUMS) is a five-college graduate health sciences university dedicated to the interprofessional education of health and biomedical professionals. Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine (SCPM) has been educating podiatric physicians since 1912. Scholl College is a recognized leader in advancing podiatric medical education in an interprofessional manner to meet the demands of todays patients.

We at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFUMS), the only graduate health Sciences University in the United States named after a woman scientist, welcome applications for the next SCPM Director of Recruitment/Assistant Professor. RFUMS places unique emphasis on interprofessional training and practice and is comprised of five postgraduate health professions schools and colleges. RFUMS is located in the city of North Chicago, Illinois, a richly diverse community. Centered between the thriving cities of Chicago and Milwaukee at the northeast corner of Illinois, the area boasts a broad array of cultures, religions, and ethnic heritages.

This individual will provide administrative oversight of the holistic evaluation and admissions process and reports to the Vice Dean of SCPM. The successful candidate should possess a deep understanding of medical education spanning pre-medical to graduate levels, and a successful track record of recruiting highly talented and diverse student classes. As a member of the Scholl team, this individual should practice a collaborative and facilitative work style and embrace innovation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead ongoing SCPM admissions strategic planning and continuous quality improvement processes that establish short and long-term programmatic goals resulting in the achievement of measurable outcomes used to meet enrollment goals.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate on an annual basis a recruitment plan that makes appropriate use of recruitment funds and resources available to the College.
  • Develop and implement strategies that enhance relationships between the College and the pre-health advisor community; maintain advisor name/address database.
  • Collaborate with recruiters from other college programs to include Pre-Matriculation Program and the Biomedical Sciences Program.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase the number and percentage of admitted applicants who actually enroll in the College.
  • Conduct campus visits to pre-health advisors and participate in Graduate and Health Careers Fairs in accordance with the annual recruitment plan.
  • Conduct individual meetings by telephone or in-person with and provide academic guidance, direction, and information to individuals interested in exploring a career in podiatric medicine.
  • Prepare written and electronic program materials for existing and proposed recruitment/admissions programs in collaboration with Strategic Enrollment and Management.
  • Develop use of social media for recruitment.
  • Provide counsel and insight regarding national trends and strategies recommended by national organizations, and innovate accordingly.
  • Serve as Scholl liaison to AACPMAS, develop and implement strategies to increase Scholl student participation in the recruitment.
  • Develop strategies to increase the participation of faculty members and alumni in the recruitment effort.
  • Evaluate on an annual basis, strategies to enhance the interview process/day. Participate during the interview day.
  • Actively promote practices/strategies that support diversity and inclusion in student recruitment and admissions.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice Dean and Dean, Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine.



Required Education and Experience
  • Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check.
  • Doctor of Podiatric Medicine.
  • Podiatric license eligibility to practice in Illinois.
  • Position will hold a faculty appointment at the appropriate rank, subject to satisfactory results from a background check and the approval of the applicable academic committees, Vice President of Faculty Affairs, and the Board of Trustees.



Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • A demonstrated record of excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills with students and faculty.
  • Highly professional individual with an honest, genuine, and direct communication style.
  • Emotional maturity with the ability to demonstrate tact, discretion, and job diplomacy.
  • Proven track record of integrity and trustworthiness in the workplace and the ability to build healthy relationships.
  • Maintain a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • A proficient understanding of the utilization of technology and social media as a communication tool.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Board Qualified/Board Certified status in either the ABFAS or ABPM Boards.
  • Experience working in an academic environment or admissions committee for an academic institution.
  • Preferred 3 years of post-residency experience.



Typical Physical Demands & Working Conditions
  • Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Work is of light physical demand in an office setting with duties performed while sitting, standing, or occasionally stooping.
  • Periodic seasonal traveling will be expected of the applicant.
