POSITION SUMMARY

The Stroke& Epilepsy Program Director is a registered professional nurse, who ensures the effective and efficient operation of the stroke and epilepsy programs, clinically, strategically and administratively. This includes engagement with other leaders to streamline care for inpatient and outpatient neurology and neurosurgical services.



This position is responsible for coordination of, planning, implementation, operational oversight and strategic development of the Stroke and Epilepsy programs from an inpatient and ambulatory perspective including the oversight of the EEG department, and inpatient Teleneurology programs (including pediatrics). The Director collaborates with the Co-Medical Directors of The Stroke Program as well as the VP for the Surgical Service Line and AVP of Neurosciences and Behavioral Health to collectively establish and lead a cohesive organizational structure that supports the care continuum for neurosciences and stroke care. The director will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to assure seamless coordination of care throughout full care continuum by creating efficiencies in day-to-day processes and ensuring timely access to patients at the right time and place. The director will oversee the stroke program to identify opportunities to improve the care delivery to the community and identify care gaps. The director will work with senior leaders to recruit to fill those gaps and develop programs to support the identified community need. The director is responsible for the financial viability of stroke and epilepsy program initiatives, which consist of appropriate prioritization and distribution of resources across the service line and seeking methods to develop innovative delivery of care models. Establishes close alignment through collaborative relationships with various AtlantiCare entity departments, leadership, direct staff, medical staff, and other specialists integral to the development of the neurosciences service line. The director collaborates with Quality Management Team, System Risk Management, and legal to ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory and accrediting bodies to decrease patient risk events. Responsible for development and implementation of a high quality stroke program with an emphasis on patient satisfaction, data collection and review, evidence based practice, process improvement, and development of clinical pathways and protocols.



The director also is responsible for coordination of budget development and reviews achievements of entities within the scope of responsibilities. The person in this role will also plan, organize, and direct all development and growth strategies for the Stroke Program at AtlantiCare.The director fosters relationships with AtlantiCare and non-AtlantiCare facilities for transfers of neuroscience patients when services cannot be rendered at the transferring hospital. The director seeks necessary knowledge of market place to develop strategy for stroke and epilepsy program growth and development. This position maintains current knowledge of guidelines, devices, tests, treatments, and procedures available for the treatment of stroke and other neurologic conditions. This position also maintains current knowledge of neurophysiology, neurologic, endovascular, and neurosurgical procedures performed. Also, provides effective and responsive leadership for Neuro clinical services.



Additionally, the director maintains collaboration with or participation in national, regional, or state programs. The director or the Stroke and Epilepsy Programs ensures and maintains compliance with all established regulations and legislative developments.



This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing required. Masters degree in either Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or Business required.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of NJ. CCRN or SCRN certification preferred. BLS and ACLS required.

EXPERIENCE: 5-7 years of neuroscience/stroke clinical experience preferred. 5-7 years of leadership experience overseeing strategy and operations of a service line required. Proficiency in Clinical Applications required. Membership and active participation in professional organizations such as American Heart Association, American Board of Neurosciences Nursing, or ASET (The Neurodiagnostic Society).

Demonstrates the technical competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.



WORK ENVIRONMENT

Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous substances, and potential injury. This position requires frequent walking and standing with occasional bending and stooping.
