The Director of Public Relations is responsible for driving external brand messaging and target audience cultivation to increase PLTW value and esteem through thought leadership, earned, paid, and shared media. This individual leads integrated marketing communications strategies to advance organizational priorities and goals by leveraging external channels and communications outlets that effectively represent the PLTW brand to the public.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a public relations strategy, including annual PR plans, and thought leadership that increases brand awareness, brand experience, and personalizes what PLTW means to schools, districts, and communities across the U.S. that align to organizational goals and consistently earn media coverage and increased engagement for the PLTW brand
  • Serve as an organizational spokesperson
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key media outlets and reporters
  • Pitch and secure proactive media opportunities through traditional and digital channels
  • Facilitate incoming media inquiries and identify appropriate staff persons to serve as spokespeople and prepare appropriate briefing materials
  • Develop and lead the design of press materials, including media kits, op-eds, thought leadership articles, holding statements, talking points, media briefs, and news releases
  • Collaborate with marketing, communications, and events team members to identify opportunities to amplify key campaign themes and messages to target audiences through external media outlets
  • Work with MCE Leadership to develop and execute a strategic plan for President and CEO, including executive media briefs, key message development, speech development, presentation development, and social media presence
  • Identify PR and media opportunities for President and CEO and other c-suite leaders
  • Identify and facilitate media training opportunities for designated leaders
  • Assist in the development and execution of reporting on strategy to inform various stakeholders of ongoing PR and media efforts, including outcomes and measurement
  • Other duties as assigned


Knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field of study is required
  • Crisis planning and strategic communications
  • Public information principles and practices

  • Advanced experience with developing public relations strategies
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with members of the community, media, business, and industry
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
