Our approach to developing new medicines is based on applying proprietary, drug delivery technology that improves the way drugs are dosed and released. We are currently focused on the development and potential FDA approval of our lead candidate, FT218.

Avadels FT218 is an investigational, once at bedtime, extended-release formulation of sodium oxybate intended to treat excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) and cataplexy in patients suffering from narcolepsy. Sodium Oxybate is currently the standard of care for the treatment of excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) and cataplexy in patients suffering from narcolepsy. However, the currently approved sodium oxybate formulations require two nightly doses - one dose at bedtime and the second dose 2.5-4 hours later, in the middle of the night.

Once at bedtime FT218 has been granted Orphan Drug Designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of narcolepsy. The designation was granted on the plausible hypothesis that once at bedtime FT218 may be clinically superior to a formulation of sodium oxybate that is already approved by the FDA for the same indication. In particular, once at bedtime FT218 may be safer due to ramifications associated with the dosing regimen of the currently marketed twice-nightly product. Avadels market research suggests that FT218, if approved by the FDA, has the potential to command a meaningful share of the multi-billion-dollar narcolepsy treatment market. FT218 currently has patent protection until at least 2037 with additional patent applications pending that could extend that date beyond 2040.

On April 27, 2020, we announced positive topline results from our pivotal phase 3 REST-ON trial of once-nightly FT218 for the treatment of excessive daytime sleepiness and cataplexy in patients with narcolepsy. On December 16, 2020, we announced the submission of our New Drug Application (NDA) in the United States for FT218. On March 1, 2021, we announced FDA acceptance of the FT218 NDA and a target action PDUFA date of October 15, 2021.

We are a small team that will be growing a lot and we have a lot of work to do in building towards our best-in-class team to support commercialization of FT218, if approved. Position Summary:

Avadel is seeking a Director, Contracting and Pricing to join the Market Access team within the Commercial organization. This will be a critical role to lead the strategic alignment of pricing and contracting solutions across multiple stakeholders. This is an exciting, high profile opportunity for an individual that is passionate about the role of contracting and pricing strategies and ensuring that patients suffering from narcolepsy receive access to our lead investigational product FT218.


Reporting directly to the VP of Market Access, this role will lead the development, drafting, analysis and secure the necessary approvals for Managed Markets contracts and will be a key contributor to contracting strategies and business decisions in line with market access goals. This individual will lead and provide best in class innovative solutions to pricing and contracting challenges and opportunities. This role will have frequent interaction with senior Commercial leadership and manage the Pricing Committee.

Essential Functions:

  • Work cross functionally with national account directors, marketing, sales, legal, compliance, patient services, channel distribution, and finance to strategically align the organization on strategic pricing and contracting challenges and opportunities.
  • Lead C-Level discussions for contracting opportunities with the key customers to achieve outstanding access for FT218 at launch and beyond.
  • Execute, monitor and measure performance activities to support appropriate GTN calculation and accruals.
  • Work closely with the patient Services, channel distribution and National Account Directors to monitor market, product and account conditions as well as changes in laws and regulations and educate internal and external personnel on the implications of any such changes
  • Collaborate with Finance, Legal, Contract Operations, Government Pricing, Compliance and other departments for consistent business rules focused on appropriate reporting and compliance with all laws and regulations
  • Lead review of contract proposals within the market access organization and ensure alignment with contract strategies and business objectives, and in conjunction with key stakeholders, model potential impact of contracts on current and long-term financial operating plans.
  • Provide leadership and oversee the financial evaluation and assessment of healthcare policy and reimbursement landscape changes for near and long-term impact to Avadels portfolio.
  • Provide contracting financial modelling and analysis development, business assessments and post deal analysis for all Commercial and Government contracts.
  • Manage market access operations to ensure contract proposals get approval and are executed consistent with approval.
  • Ensure appropriate utilization for contracts is received, the correct payments are made consistent with contract language and data is integrated to evaluate contracts.
  • Support government pricing calculations and ensure accurate and timely reporting for all government obligations.
  • Evaluate profitability and strategic benefit of contract proposals and monitor approved contracts against proposal analytics over time.
  • Audit all Market Access contracts to ensure services of contracts are being executed appropriately
  • Work with outside expert to assess contracts vs Fair Market Value (FMV) and ensure cost structure aligns with guidance
  • Review of Specialty Channel agreements to make certain that Avadels strategic imperatives are met for: content, Services, Digital and agreed upon metrics
  • Identify and lead mitigation strategy for all pricing and payer risks associated with product distribution, sales and contracting.
  • Comply with contracting SOPs, cross functional consensus and governance approval process
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to monitor account and channel behaviors and impacts on financial reporting

Education, Experience, & Skills:

  • Bachelors degree and 10+ years experience in contracting operations and government pricing.
  • 5+ years directly in a contract role within Biotech/Pharma working with a manufacturer
  • Expertise in working with contract management systems and government reporting mandates for manufactures.
  • Working knowledge of relevant rules and laws, guiding distribution, pricing and contracting.
  • Product launch, specialty pharmacy and CNS market experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and integrate and communicate across functional areas to achieve organizational goals.
  • Successful ability to analyze proposals and strategically identify implications and risks of decisions.
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate skills in analytics, influencing without authority, teamwork, flexibility, holding others accountable, project management and strategic planning.
