Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Dialogue & Training Program Coordinator position. The Dialogue & Training Program Coordinator is a full-time, year-round position, job group and level PT-1. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the w ays in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students for Diversity & Inclusion, the Dialogue & Training Program Coordinator manages the Resource Centers Team's (RCT) dialogue and training programs and initiatives. The Dialogue & Training Coordinator is a core member of the RCT and supports the overall mission of the Resource Centers Team and Office of Student Affairs division. The Coordinator works in direct collaboration with the RCT- Center for Diversity & Student Leadership, Queer Resource Center, Center for International Student Engagement, Multicultural Resource Center, Women's & Gender Center, as well as with other campus partners including the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Center for Restorative Practices, Alumni & Parent Programs, Dean of the Faculty, etc. The Coordinator serves as an important resource to the diverse campus community in building and supporting identity development and community engagement. The Coordinator is responsible for the creation of curriculum, supervising Peer Dialogue student Facilitators (PDFs), and the development, coordination, and facilitation of various dialogues, workshops, and trainings for and among students, staff, and faculty.

The Dialogue Coordinator will have deep knowledge of and experience working with constituents around issues of race, ethnicity, ability, gender, sexual identity, gender identity and expression, religion, socioeconomic status, nationality, and first-generation status. The Dialogue Coordinator will have demonstrated success in working with currently and historically marginalized people and an understanding of inter and intragroup dialogue and other social justice pedagogical practices. The Dialogue Coordinator will collaborate with others and be able to work with many different individuals, offices/departments, and academic units across campus.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create dialogue opportunities for a diverse group of students, staff, and faculty on campus, especially with a focus on topics of race, ability, sexual identity, gender identity and expression, religion, class, nationality, etc.
  • Create virtual educational opportunities, programs, trainings, etc., to be delivered through various online platforms during our time of remote learning and potentially, beyond.
  • Oversee the #AmherstChatBack Dialogue Series
  • Work closely with the Associate Dean in developing learning and programming goals for the #AmherstChatBack Dialogue Program and the PDFs
  • Work with the Associate Dean to oversee the RCT's Faculty Lecture Series
  • Develop and implement a monthly RCT program that supports the Cultural and Heritage Month programming series
  • Practice and model excellent interpersonal skills and methods for productive dialogue and discourse-Helping individual students navigate challenging moments and situations
  • Building partnerships across the campus to further positive intergroup relations

Training & Resource Development:
  • Provide training and competency skill-building related to inter and intragroup dialogues for students and Amherst College community members
  • Design curriculum and lead comprehensive training(s)/seminars focused on identity, power, privilege, and oppression
  • Create and manage a training protocol and process for the campus community to request and receive trainings offered by the RCT
  • Research and update resources and services that the RCT provides (pamphlets, website, social media, etc.)
  • Co-create and facilitate the RCTs student staff trainings and in-services
  • Work collaboratively with student-facing offices to train student staff across the College
  • Generate comprehensive assessment tools for the RCTs programs to track attendance, student feedback, and impact of resources
  • Design weekly promotional and advertising materials for RCT programs and initiatives

Supervision of Student Staff:
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise Peer Dialogue Student Facilitators (PDFs)
  • Mentor and advise student affinity groups in supporting their efforts to develop inclusive programming focused on issues of identity and inclusion
  • Facilitate weekly staff meetings with PDFs.
  • Train Peer Dialogue Facilitators on developing curriculum designs and dialogue facilitation skills utilizing an intersectional social justice framework for the #AmherstChatBack: Peer Dialogue Program

  • Attend bi-weekly Resource Centers Team professional staff meetings
  • Present at local and regional conferences on the RCTs Dialogue and Trainings Program
  • Represent the RCT at various events and outreach activities across the College
  • All employees are expected to participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

  • Bachelors Required. Masters Preferred.
  • An interest in higher education, social justice, administrative leadership, and/or related field.
  • Valid driver's license and successful credentialing are required in order to operate college vehicles specifically 7 and 12 passenger vans to transport students and staff to and from events, conferences, and trainings. Driving within the Amherst/Hadley/Northampton area for materials and/or events.
  • An understanding of the communities and salient identities that the Resource Centers serve.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Zoom, Google/Gmail, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication, time management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and collaboratively
  • Commitment to working with a diverse and inclusive community
  • Able to work programs/activities outside 9 am-5 pm working hours

  • Experience with Adobe, Publisher, Canva, or related software
