ABOUT THE ROLE

The Academic Division is a world leader in the publishing of books, journals and online services in a wide range of academic and professional disciplines, as well as reference works, textbooks, and books for the general reader.

The Academic Design team spans the Oxford, New York, and Toronto offices, and is responsible for managing and developing designs for print and e-book products.

This is an exciting opportunity for a creative book cover designer to join our in-house design team. Reporting to a Senior Art Director, you will create eye-catching and original book cover designs for a wide range of our academic publishing, including Trade books. There will also be the opportunity to work on marketing materials and journal cover designs. You will be expected to handle many projects at the same time, keep our workload management systems updated, and organize your tasks to meet deadlines.

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a passion for book cover design in their portfolio. Strong typography and layout skills are essential, along with the ability to adapt your design style to suit different audiences and genres, and meet the requirements of the design briefs. You should possess strong organizational and communication skills and be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in Graphic Design, preferably within a print publishing environment
  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite software (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat)
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office software within a MAC environment (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Good understanding of how to accurately set up design files for print
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
  • Ability to manage a busy workload and work to strict deadlines
  • A high level of organization, attention to detail, and self-motivation

Position Location: This position can be done in a hybrid capacity out of New York, NY. The position can also be done remotely in the United States.
