Reporting to the Vice President for Student Development, the Dean of Students is a key member of the senior leadership team, involved in the management, supervision and daily operations of the Student Development Division. Assists the Vice President in planning, implementation and evaluation of strategic initiatives to help students integrate their out of classroom experiences with their academic learning, formulating and executing short-term and long-range planning for residence life, student conduct, case management and the nationally recognized Messina living and learning program. Responsible for overseeing the general administration, staffing, and policies of several departments and co-chairing the Universitys mental/behavioral health interventionCARETeam.

Masters degree required in higher education administration, student affairs or related field.
More than 8 years of experience.
Working knowledge of student development theory and its applications, multicultural competencies, and residence life and conduct experience, legal issues in a higher education setting. Experience in hiring, training, supervising staff, managing staff development and leadership development. Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Budget management skills with the ability to forecast occupancy levels, staff needs and resource allocation. Significant problem analysis, problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Ability to handle emergencies on a residential campus. Ability to communicate effectively with all university partners. Ability to interpret legal requirements and maintain a fair and effective conduct system. Ability to generate data, analyze and interpret data to make decisions about plans and processes. Ability to promote diversity within a college setting. Ability to perform with a student-centered philosophy and commit to diversity in leadership. Ability to motivate others and to establish a significant level of trust. Ability to support the Universitys goals for institutional diversity, as well as the goals and values of a Catholic, Jesuit education.
