Coordinator, National Community Engagement

Telecommuting Job Opportunity! Are you looking for a fast-paced and highly impactful position with a dynamic animal welfare organization? Join Best Friends Animal Society as the National Community Engagement Coordinator! You will work with our lifesaving centers across the country to design, implement and support community engagement programs that will help save lives and support our mission to end the killing of cats and dogs in shelters nationwide by 2025.

The National Community Engagement Coordinator facilitates community engagement at the national level, supporting cross-center and cross-department success towards Best Friends Animal Society's no-kill mission.

This Coordinator is responsible for providing program development, support, and coordination for Best Friends' lifesaving programs, specifically around engaging the community to the greatest extent possible to be a part of our mission, regardless of where they live.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Minimum three years' professional leadership/management experience with a background developing, implementing, and managing volunteer-based programs.
  • General companion animal knowledge, including those with health and/or behavior conditions/concerns; ability to identify and speak to medical and behavioral characteristics of dogs and cats including medicating, socializing, and basic behavior modification techniques.
  • Strong technology skills and ability to source and implement innovative technological solutions to support animal lifesaving work.
  • Customer-centric, non-judgmental approach to engaging with adopters, partners, visitors, volunteers, and colleagues; familiarity and comfort with an open adoption process.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a team player, upbeat, energetic, tactful, and diplomatic, able to get along with people from different backgrounds.
  • Resourceful, get-it-done attitude; initiative to assist in any area or process; problem solving, seeking answers independently and enthusiastically; flexibility to persist until lifesaving outcome goals are achieved; demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, public speaking, and presentation experience with the ability to professionally advocate Best Friends' position on issues; experience in supporting, engaging with, and developing relationships with the public, volunteers, and colleagues.
  • Creative problem-solving and analytical thinking with an understanding of the importance of data to decision making.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools, Digital Cheetah, Shelterluv, Airtable, Trello, and Avochato, preferred.
  • Bi- or multi-lingual a plus.
  • Mountain or Central time zone preferred.
