The Controller is a director-level position and key member of the finance team responsible for the day-to-day accounting and related functions including benefits and payroll. This position is based out of our Cincinnati office.
The Controller is responsible for providing reports and other deliverables to the CFO and the company. They must have a deep understanding of accounting including, but not limited to, balance sheet reconciliation, journal entries, multi-state sales tax, and cash flow forecasting. The successful candidate has a great attention to detail balanced with seeing the larger picture and the ability to think strategically on how to achieve objectives. Through their own work and through the management of a small team of accounting specialists accomplish the following key responsibilities:
- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with applicable local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, department budgets and actual expenditures.
- Create monthly and quarterly reports for financial institutions, management, and board.
- Responsibility for payroll processing, garnishments, and benefit management. (ADP Workforce Now)
- Manage onboarding and offboarding of employees, in conjunction with HR.
- Oversee and perform day-to-day cash management duties, including effectively managing account receivable and cashflow forecasting.
- Perform month-end closings in a timely manner.
- Effectively manage deferred revenue and prepaid expenses.
- Assist in the annual external financial audit.
- Asset, Inventory, and Vendor Management.
- Manage workers compensation and other insurance claims.
- Deep commitment to and aptitude for job costing.
- Experience with accounting based on multiple locations, departments, and jobs.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related discipline. MBA preferred.
- Minimum 5-6 years accounting experience in a senior accounting or financial management role.
- Knowledge of, and experience with, journal transactions, balance sheet reconciliation, and cash flow forecasting
- Experience with invoicing and AR collections
- Experience processing payroll
- Deep understanding and applicable experience in accrual accounting.
- Knowledge or experience with ADP or similar platforms
- Impeccable analytical and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Self-motivated and self-directed.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary: $100,000.00 to $120,000.00 /year DOE
