Communication Specialist

About the Position

The Communication Specialist will work alongside the Communication Manager to develop cohesive and engaging messaging. The content created will foster collaboration and engagement among staff and represent the Credit Union voice and culture to a variety of audiences.

Normal Day-to-Day Work
  1. Write engaging and informative communication for a variety of channels.
  2. Work alongside coworkers within the Communication, Creative Services, Marketing Strategy and Membership & Volunteer Development teams to create messaging that applies proper brand guidelines and Credit Union standards and ensures a consistent approach to corporate communication needs.
  3. Translate complex information into clear messaging for Credit Union members and organizational partners. Identify, analyze, and understand target audiences and their specific communication needs - and develop effective messages for those audiences.
  4. Facilitate various communication needs that represent the Credit Union by streamlining a cohesive brand and style across all channels including but not limited to email, web, and social.
  5. Develop on-target messaging and apply proper brand and voice, to meet stated objectives in chosen media/channel.
  6. Proofread any copy/material produced by or submitted to the Marketing department for Credit Union brand, voice, grammar and editorial style guide.
  7. Participate in formal and informal cross-functional teams in support of corporate projects and strategic initiatives. Write attention-grabbing copy including but not limited to headlines, advertising, scripts, slogans, emails, news releases and product descriptions.


Job Qualifications

Here are a few skills you MUST have to be considered for this position.
  1. 4 - 6 years of copywriting and communication experience.
  2. Excellent copywriting and editorial skills with the ability to judge and correct submitted copy, show strong attention to detail and maintain consistency across all content.
  3. Outstanding verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  4. Ability to use AP and/or Chicago style guides.
  5. Ability to function in a consumer business office environment and use standard office equipment including but not limited to PC, copier, telephone, etc.
  6. Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. (file boxes, computer printer).
  7. Travel required on occasion.


Here are a few qualifications we'd LIKE you to have to make you more suited for this position.
  1. Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or related field.
  2. Experience in writing financial services related copy or other highly regulated industry requiring detailed compliance review.
  3. Mac/PC proficient including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.)
