Job Title Description: Chief Financial Officer

Classification: Exempt

Reports To: President and Chief Executive Officer

Position Summary
The vision at Northern Illinois Food Bank is for everyone in Northern Illinois to have the food they need to thrive. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and proud member of Feeding America, we serve our neighbors in 13 counties with dignity, equity and convenience. The organization follows sound financial principles that will insure the longevity and sustainability of our organization. This position oversees and directs the Finance and Accounting, IT, Analytics and Human Resources functions for the Food Bank. As part of the executive management team, this position will also participate in the Executive Team.

The CFO has direct accountability for the reporting and analysis, regulatory reporting, internal controls, treasury management, risk management and oversight of IT and human resource functions.

Essential Functions

  • Manage teams related to IT, Human Resources, Finance & Accounting, Analytics.
  • Responsible for oversight of all financial, human resource, IT and Analytics daily operations and outcomes
  • Develop, implement and maintain all financial and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Oversee data warehouse design and structure ensuring all levels of the organization have appropriate dashboards and or reporting that is effective for decision making and planning
  • Responsible for all People Management strategies, including talent acquisition, compensation, including benefits, retention, training, leadership development.
  • Support Controller in oversight of annual financial audit and 990 process and prepare audit and 990 information for areas of responsibility.
  • Oversee the preparation of information for annual letter to agencies of federal awards.
  • Manage inventory valuation processes. Participate in the review of monthly and annual inventory counts. Work with inventory team to improve inventory processes.
  • Internal controls
  • Risk management including oversight of strategies and corporate insurance
  • Board & finance committee management
  • IT core infrastructure planning and oversight
  • Oversee monthly bank, investment account and 401k account reconciliations and quarterly petty cash reconciliation, insuring appropriate segregation of duties.
  • Manage the Food Banks banking relationships. Direct the organizations banking by negotiating bank loans, lines of credit, etc.
  • Monitor investments to ensure advisor is aligned to policy
  • Oversee review of contracts for entire organization. Maintain central file of contracts.
  • Ensure appropriate personnel, finance and analytics practices are in place and effective for leadership including coaching and support of leadership financial and human resource responsibilities and needs.
  • Responsible for Food Banks Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategies including cross functional staff and Board strategies.

Required Education, Skills, & Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Seven plus years of experience leading an Accounting and/or Finance team with experience in inventory accounting required.
  • CPA or demonstrated up-to-date knowledge of the unique requirements in non-profit accounting is required.
  • Experience with reporting and audit requirements for federal funding is desired.
  • Advanced Excel Skills and proficiency in Power Point, Word, and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent analytical skills and advanced skills in turning data into relevant and useful information based on understanding of the organization and its operations.
  • Technologically savvy and process driven.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Shows leadership and initiative in taking on new projects and improving business processes.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teamwork, working cross-functionally across and at different levels in the organization.

Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience

CFO experience for a non-profit organization is highly desired.


Supervisory Responsibility

This position supervises multiple employees.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photo copiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to move files, open filing cabinets and position self on a stool as necessary.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the "core" work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status.

Position Location

This position is based out of our West Suburban Center (Geneva) location.

Travel

Minimal travel is required.
