The Family Life Coach provides comprehensive case management services to families experiencing instability. Case management services may include: assessment, goal setting, case plans and necessary supports and services. The Family Life Coach must be able to make decisions and independently follow protocols for up to 18 families identified by designated school staff through the Student and Family Support program. The primary focus will be to serve families experiencing economic or family instability through a 2Gen strengths-based model. Flexible schedule required as this position will work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

Essential Duties

  • Engage and interview families for program enrollment by completing a thorough intake/assessment process and needs assessment. Will offer case management services and regular ongoing contacts to facilitate goal attainment and family stabilization while exercising discretion and independent judgment for areas of significance. Manage a caseload of up to 18 families at a time.
  • Administer biopsychosocial assessments, case plans, resource coordination and financial literacy education for all families on caseload.
  • Maintain clear and effective case notes and files for all families receiving services according to Standards of Quality for Family Strengthening and Support standards and receive/review/retain all required documentation.
  • Document and maintain thorough, accurate and reliable program statistics and reports as required as well as complete data entry for client management.
  • Expectation to participate in trainings and remain current on homelessness, poverty, and related issues (networking, reading books/articles/blogs) and is required to attend annual conference.
  • Assist with planning/scheduling/executing enrichment activities/partner school community events.
  • Participate regularly with Family Connections Life Coaching team in ongoing case conferencing and community of practice.
  • Participate regularly with school staff meetings.
  • Track expenditures/revenues to comply with program budget.
  • Position requires regular travel between sites Catholic Charities, home visits and participating partner schools.


  • Case management skills and ability to define, collaborate, and facilitate attainment of stated goals.
  • Good computer skills, including word processing and ability and to learn SureImpact database.
  • Knowledge of family dynamics, systems theory, domestic violence, and social work theory/ practice.
  • Ability to engage, foster, and maintain effective working relationships with a broad variety families.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in problem solving/planning, mediation, and conflict resolution.
  • Knowledgeable and understanding of Trauma Informed Care principles/practices and Motivational Interviewing, and/or will take initiative toward self-directed learning of these.
  • Utilize a Family Development approach to strengthen families and build support systems.
  • Knowledge of child development and 2Gen strength-based family support practices and ability to use these practices when working with families and co-workers.
  • Knowledge of social issues such as poverty, gender bias, domestic violence, alcohol and other drug abuse, child maltreatment prevention, cultural diversity, etc.
  • Knowledge of community resources and systems.
  • Ability to demonstrate commitment to developing community members' potential, prosperity and protection with demonstrated understanding of cultural awareness.
  • Enthusiasm for and commitment to the principle of helping others to help themselves.
  • Able to demonstrate attention to detail, following directions, prioritizing projects, and interpreting policies and procedures to ensure compliance.

Work Environment

  • Co-located within Catholic Charities and a school district.
  • A majority of the assigned duties are performed in an office environment.
  • The employee is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.

  • Associate's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology or related field and two to four years of full-time experience working with direct client/family interaction.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology or related field preferred along with one year full-time experience working with direct client/family interaction.
  • Knowledge of Human Services agencies in the area.
  • Transportation and valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Fingerprint and background clearance required.
  • Work ethic that exemplifies enthusiasm, teamwork, and self-motivation.
  • Strong interpersonal and human relations skills with flexibility, adaptability and ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply culturally appropriate skills in interactions with clients, co-workers, volunteers, partner agencies, and other community members.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), problem solving, listening, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to form and maintain positive work relationships.
  • Local travel between partner schools, home visits, and Catholic Charities offices will be required.
  • Ability and willingness to work within the established structure of Catholic Charities and the school district where placed.
  • Occasional evenings and weekends are required to accommodate family schedules, meetings, and special events.


$17.00 - $18.00/hour DOE

Position Classification


Full Time: 40 hours per week

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
