This role is an exciting opportunity to join our thriving Music department and be a point of contact for OUP in North America, working alongside anther Business Development Manager based in North America and reporting to the Head of Business Development in Oxford, UK. The role-holder will promote OUP repertoire to key accounts, decision makers and end-users to generate income for OUP and its composers through sales of sheet music and live performances, broadcasts and recorded music. Key responsibilities include:
  • Develop contact, build positive relationships and conduct effective promotions with/to choir leaders, choral educationalists, choral enthusiasts, choral bodies and the media to achieve increased business and enhanced composer profiles.
  • Increase the exposure of OUP choral music with key influencers so that Oxford composers and Oxford music see increased programming, recordings, broadcasts and usage, profile and revenue.
  • Support trade accounts to ensure sales in the territory show growth and are supported effectively. Working with Business Development colleagues, ensure all available OUP product data is utilized by trade customers on their websites to maximize exposure and build sales.
  • Deliver campaigns and create, and take advantage of, promotion opportunities via trade accounts own promotional channels.
  • Develop relationships with third parties to ensure OUP Music is presented to and considered by competitions, festivals, state list and syllabus selectors, and achieves increased selection.
  • Identify and organize appropriate reading sessions and other activities for OUP Music that ensure that programs know the new music published by OUP.
  • Represent OUP at events, conventions and performance premieres as required.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with and for OUP composers to ensure both they and their repertoire are fully supported, understood, championed and amplified.
  • Working with the Head of Publishing, identify opportunities in the US and Canada for choral commissions for OUP house composers that are aligned with OUPs music publishing strategy.
  • Support Music Department colleagues with specialist knowledge of OUP Choral Music, the North American market and performing groups to support all activities including sales, licensing, marketing materials and any other activity.

  • Excellent musical knowledge, particularly of choral singing.
  • Excellent understanding of music customer needs (trade and non-trade).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to nurture and develop positive working relationships with internal colleagues and external composers, authors and contributors to be an ambassador for OUP.
  • Ability to see commercial opportunities for OUP Music and work with existing and new networks to realize these.
  • Positive attitude to identifying growth opportunities and delivering on targets.
