The new Benefits Administrator position at Advocates for Human Potential, Inc. (AHP) will manage and administer the day-to-day operations of group benefits programs (group health, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, worker's compensation, life insurance, accident plan, flexible spending plan, retirement plans, etc.). Because our benefits plans play an important role in employee satisfaction and retention, your role will be extremely important to our entire organization.

We are a national behavioral health consulting firm that tackles the biggest societal issues: the opioid epidemic, homelessness, trauma, mental health issues, substance use disorders, and other pressing public health concerns. This position requires someone who can provide excellent customer service for our benefits plans. The Benefits Administrator continually monitors and improves current programs and investigates new benefits programs. Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service support to internal and external customers. Develop communication tools to enhance understanding of the company's benefits package.
  • Design and distribute materials for benefits orientations, open enrollment and summary plan descriptions.
  • Serve as primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators. Interact with service providers to resolve any issues.
  • Listen to and assist staff with benefits questions.
  • Advise employees of their benefit option, inform them of their benefit options and plans, and monitor use.
  • Coordinate transfer of data to external contacts for services, premiums and plan administration.
  • Document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned benefits processes.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable government regulations. Ensure timeliness and accuracy of required reporting and fees.
  • Manage enrollments and determine employee eligibility.
  • Coordinate leaves of absence and process claims or requests (medical operations, worker's compensation, etc.).
  • Coordinate daily benefits processing. Handle enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims, rollovers, QDROs, QMCSOs, distributions, loans, hardships, and compliance testing.
  • Collaborate with accounting department for payments and deductions. Gather employee data and oversee the processing of monthly billings and the preparation of vouchers for payment of administrative fees for all group plans.
  • Survey industry trends. Complete benefits surveys and review information obtained from the results. Analyze complex benefits information. Forecast trends and assist with future benefits designs. Develop specific recommendations for review by management.
  • Monitor administrative costs of benefits programs and recommend cost containment strategies, including alternative methods for administration and funding. Prepare budgetary recommendations and assist in the monitoring, verifying and reconciling of budgeted funds.
  • Contribute to the design of benefit programs by researching employee benefits plans and vendors to identify those that present the best value.
  • Recommend and implement new benefits programs. Examine possible plan designs and benefits cost changes. Analyze current benefits, evaluating the use, services, coverage, effectiveness, cost, plan experience and competitive trends in benefits programs, and identify the company's stance.

  • 5+ years of related benefits or employee benefits administration experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in human resource management or related field.
  • Solid understanding of different benefit plans (retirement, medical, dental, life, disability, etc.) and relevant regulations.
  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing, and compliance requirementsboth adopted and pendingaffecting employee benefits programs, including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, workers' compensation, Medicare, OBRA, and Social Security and DOL requirements.
  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft products, including PowerPoint; experience with HRIS and benefits databases.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Outstanding communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adhere to confidentiality requirements.
