Overview

The Project is a news show prepared to be funny. It will inform you, make you laugh and ask you to have an opinion, all in one half-hour.

Bold, irreverent, thought-provoking, curious, funny. The Project is News delivered differently.

We are looking for an Associate Producer to join The Project.

You will join a supportive, lively and exciting atmosphere of the Project office, and the excitement of working towards a live broadcast every night. As an Associate Producer on The Project you are part of the shows editorial team, supporting the Segment Producers. You will be called upon to pitch and develop story ideas, find talent, research, write and edit interviews for daily segments.

Responsibilities

    • Generate original ideas and contribute to the editorial process and the long term program strategies
    • Comprehensively research subjects utilising primary (e.g. interviews and documentary evidence) and secondary sources (e.g. news media and internet)
    • Source talent
    • Oversee the post production process, including transcribing of interviews, editing interviews in UX, writing story scripts, recording guide voice overs.
    • Brief and manage researchers, talent and crew (including editors, graphics and field operators) on a story-by-story basis
    • Write interview question and conduct pre-interviews
    • Provide editors and motion graphics staff with vision, audio and comprehensive editing notes ensuring editorial concept is realised
    • Prepare & obtain talent/on camera releases where required, paying particular attention to Child releases and legislation
  • Confirm clearances have been obtained for vision, still images and audio prior to incorporation in any material for transmission
  • Produce recorded items/segments from existing media and original content
  • Obtain media from multiple sources external to Newshub
  • Ensure consistency of production quality and substance of content
  • Ensure all facts are thoroughly checked, legalled and of a professional standard. Learn and become a proficient user of the MediaCentral UX, and iNews systems
  • To advise the classification and legal advisers of the show of any relevant issues arising and to implement their advice.
  • The Employee shall ensure they are familiar with the Employer's health and safety policies and procedures, and any modifications to those policies and procedures that may be introduced from time to time.
  • Carry out your work safely and without endangering or causing harm to yourself, fellow staff members, contractors, customers, visitors, or the general public.
  • Other duties as required.


Qualifications

  • Ideally you would have one or more years experience working as a journalist in radio, digital/print or television.
  • Media or journalism qualification (not essential)
    • Journalism skills such as research, writing, knack for talking to people and identifying good talent, eye for news
  • An enthusiasm for telling news stories in an entertaining and informative way
  • Interest and ability to work as part of a team
  • Openness to being given direction and instruction
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Courteous and hospitable disposition
  • Familiarity with working in a high pressure environment with daily deadlines
  • A strong working knowledge of current social and political events and issues
  • Have a basic understanding of media laws and ethics
  • Have a basic understanding of potential legal issues on a story by story basis, in consultation with the Supervising Producer.
