Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Associate Director of Alumni Engagement position. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the w ays in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.

The Associate Director of Alumni Engagement works as a key member of the Alumni and Parent Programs team, developing strategies and effectively managing a diverse set of volunteers, communications and events to meet the Advancement Office's engagement goals. The Associate Director of Alumni and Parent Programs serves as the director of the 50th reunion program providing effective leadership focused on volunteer management, communications and event planning.

The Associate Director manages the planning and implementation of Amherst College Reunions for a portfolio of classes including the 50th Reunion. The Associate Director manages all engagement and programming activities for their portfolio of classes, advancing the mission of Alumni and Parent Programs, building community and creating connections among the diverse Amherst College alumni, with one another and with the College.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

Event Planning & Execution
  • Plans, implements, and oversees activities and events relating to assigned Reunion class events, including Homecoming, mini-reunions, regional and other on-campus events, and the 50th Reunion book.
  • Participates as a member of the Alumni and Parent Programs team designing and building successful programs and events for a diverse community.
  • Manages class accounts including 50th Reunion Giving and Programs budget(s).
  • Works with Advancement partners to showcase faculty and administrators, attentive to emerging College priorities including diversity, equity and inclusion; training and recognition for volunteers.
  • Manages relationships with campus partners and secures resources for programs.
  • Coordinates communications strategies, in collaboration with Advancement Communications.
  • Organizes strategic regional events to engage diverse volunteers and prospects with the College.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with colleagues across Advancement (and the college) to ensure smooth and full communication around events and initiatives

Class & Volunteer Management
  • Serves as the key contact for alumni in a portfolio of classes including those in the 50th cycle- responding to inquiries, addressing concerns, and supporting class programming.
  • Manges, recruits, trains and motivates a diverse group of class volunteers.
  • Drafts volunteer materials including handbooks, one-pagers and other supporting materials.
  • Solicits and proofs class notes and in memory pieces, enforcing guidelines when necessary for each class four times per year.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with colleagues across Advancement and the College including but not limited to; the Amherst Fund, planned and major gifts and Advancement Communications, to ensure the highest level of class engagement and participation and philanthropy.

Qualifications
R e quir e d:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5 or more years of related experience including event planning and volunteer management
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Exceptional customer service, motivational, organizational, and time management skills
  • A commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a proven record of engaging stakeholders who hold diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and collaboratively
  • Attention to detail
  • Initiative and imagination for innovation
  • Demonstrated management, leadership and supervisory skills
  • Proficient in MS Access, Excel, and Word; and ability to learn new software
  • Occasional weekend and evening hours required to staff on-campus events
  • Occasional travel for volunteer management/recruitment, regional programs support, and professional development

Preferred
  • Higher Education and/or non-profit experience
