An extended-release medication sounds like a simple innovation, but it is what has been lacking for 20 years and we believe this will be transformative for people with narcolepsy. What We Do: LUMRYZ has been granted Orphan Drug Designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of narcolepsy. The designation was granted on the plausible hypothesis that LUMRYZ may be clinically superior to a formulation of sodium oxybate already approved by the FDA for the same indication.

The FDA granted a tentative approval to LUMRYZ on July 18, 2022. Tentative approval indicates that LUMRYZ has met all required quality, safety, and efficacy standards necessary for approval in the U.S. FDAs final approval decision for LUMRYZ is pending expiration or other disposition of a patent listed in FDAs Orange Book that expires on June 17, 2023. Avadels market research suggests that LUMRYZ has the potential to command a meaningful share of the multi-billion-dollar narcolepsy treatment market.

We are currently taking steps to accelerate the final approval of LUMRYZ earlier than the expiry of the patent in June 2023, however, in either case, we are gearing up for our full launch now. We cant wait to bring an innovative new treatment option to the narcolepsy community.

Position Summary:

The Associate Director, Marketing will be a critical member of the brand team responsible for launching LUMRYZ for the treatment of narcolepsy. This position will support the brand team in the execution of the marketing plan to drive awareness and adoption for LUMRYZ for both the HCP and patient/consumer audiences with an emphasis on digital tactical execution. We are looking for a passionate marketer and team player who is a master at details and execution. S/He will support other team members including the VP of Marketing, Sr Director of HCP Marketing, and Sr Director of Patient/Consumer Marketing. This individual will collaborate within the marketing team to contribute to aspects of brand strategy and to the development and execution of the tactics for unbranded and branded HCP and patient campaigns. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced biotech/pharma marketeer to be a core team member on an exciting pharmaceutical launch in the orphan/rare disease area to help people living with narcolepsy as a lifetime, chronic CNS condition.

Essential Functions:

HCP/Patient Marketing Expertise

  • Support the marketing team and launch strategy through the execution of the marketing plans for patient/consumer audiences with an emphasis on digital execution
  • Assist in the development and deployment of unbranded disease awareness market conditioning tactics and branded tactics for both the HCP and patient audiences.
  • Execute key HCP and patient-focused marketing tactics including unbranded and branded websites, SEM, social media, affiliate marketing, email marketing, etc.
  • Provide input and help execute the digital user experience across omnichannel platforms including unbranded and branded websites for HCPs and patients, SEM, social media, affiliate marketing, email marketing, etc.
  • Collaborate with external agency partners to execute tactics effectively on time and report campaign metrics.
  • Collaborate with Patient Service Team to deliver content and patient support program offerings that enhance the patient experience and support adherence on brand.
  • Work with Marketing colleagues and Commercial Operations to coordinate support of Field Sales Training and HCP Speaker Programs.
  • Engage with key Patient Advocacy partners and patient advisors to get patient feedback / input into the development of education and support materials for people with narcolepsy.
  • Project manage marketing deliverables through stages of content development, promotional/medical/legal/regulatory review, production, deployment, evaluation and optimization to meet objectives on time.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders including marketing, market insights & analytics, patient services, regulatory / compliance and others.


Agency & Budget Management

  • Interact with external agency partners to execute plans and tactics effectively, on time and on budget; communicate the strategic direction for the brand and hold partners accountable for success metrics.


Other Key Duties/Responsibilities

  • Be a pivotal member of the Brand and Commercial Launch teams.
  • Bring an innovative, entrepreneurial attitude and combine out-of-the box ideas with established patient marketing tactics to identify efficient and appropriate channels for engaging with patient audiences on disease education and branded messaging in a dynamic environment (including post-COVID landscape).
  • Drive the spirit of ONE Team across all functions to support a full team approach to focus on our patients and customers as our top priority.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree required, preferably in the fields of Marketing, Communications, or a life-science related discipline
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in pharmaceutical/biotechnology marketing, with a minimum of 2 years successfully executing omni-channel or digital marketing tactics
  • Prior experience in field sales or sales training would be a plus
  • Prior experience with a REMS product or controlled substance helpful
  • Patient/direct-to-consumer campaign experience is highly desirable, especially in rare or orphan disease
  • Prior experience engaging and collaborating with Patient Advocacy partners or working with a patient network is a plus
