An extended-release medication sounds like a simple innovation, but it is what has been lacking for 20 years and we believe this will be transformative for people with narcolepsy. What We Do: LumryzTM has been granted Orphan Drug Designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of narcolepsy. The designation was granted on the plausible hypothesis that Lumryz may be clinically superior to a formulation of sodium oxybate already approved by the FDA for the same indication.

The FDA granted a tentative approval to LumryzTM on July 18, 2022. Tentative approval indicates that LumryzTM has met all required quality, safety, and efficacy standards necessary for approval in the U.S. FDAs final approval decision for LumryzTM is pending expiration or other disposition of a patent listed in FDAs Orange Book that expires on June 17, 2023. Avadels market research suggests that LumryzTM has the potential to command a meaningful share of the multi-billion-dollar narcolepsy treatment market.

We are currently taking steps to accelerate the final approval of LumryzTM earlier than the expiry of the patent in June 2023, however, in either case, we are gearing up for our full launch now. We cant wait to bring an innovative new treatment option to the narcolepsy community.

Position Summary:

The Associate Director of Training is primarily responsible for managing the product training associated with Avadels current and future portfolio. This position reports to the VP of Sales and will be responsible for creating and delivering sales and product training curriculum. Building strong relationships and working collaboratively with internal team members in Marketing, Sales, Market Access, alliance partners, among others, to develop a sales training strategy and approach for supported brands will be critical for success. It will be imperative to seek input from these functions to prioritize initiatives which will ultimately improve sales force effectiveness.

In addition to sales and product training, this position will help develop and implement training curriculum to support our commercial initiatives including the continued learning and development of the team. The Associate Director of Training will identify and work with external parties as needed and be responsible for budget management and vendor management Finally, this role is responsible to ensure that all promotional activities are in accordance with operational guidelines and aligns initiatives with Avadels core values, compliance and Code of Conduct policies.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage, design and deliver sales and product training curriculum including Initial Sales Training, National Sales/Leadership Meetings, and product launch training ensuring training and education increases understanding of disease state, product knowledge and selling skills.
  • Identify, develop, and lead continuing skill development for customer facing sales roles to include advanced training and learning programs.
  • Serves as lead liaison with external parties and vender management.
  • Ensure that training curriculum can be successfully executed to take into account remote based learning.
  • Participate in the successful on-boarding of field based and home office Commercial employees to ensure the required roles receive the necessary sales training and education needed to perform their rules and meet all requirements for customer engagement.
  • Regularly assesses the sales force and sales management training needs by observing individual Account Manager performance/behaviors and collaborating with the appropriate functional areas.
  • Participate and lead in strategic projects designed to fulfill the needs of the field sales force. These projects include continuous collaboration with all relevant support departments: Marketing, Clinical, Regulatory, IT, Sales Operations, Commercial Analytics, etc., and include but are not limited to new product launches, new marketing directives, new indication launches, new positioning directives, etc.
  • Analyze and assess training effectiveness to determine when revisions, enhancements, or new programs should occur, and receives recommendation/input from the team. Provide input to Commercial Operations Leadership.
  • Develops and implements evaluations to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of training and provides metrics for management review.
  • Acts as main point of contact for Sales and Marketing teams regarding day-to-day operations of training, the development of new training initiatives or supporting changes in direction of existing training initiatives.
  • Champion all Avadel operational guidelines, core values and Code of Conduct policies, as well as ensures that all activities and materials, observed or taught, are also in accordance with these guidelines

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Minimum 5 years relevant pharmaceutical/biotech/healthcare industry experience or training experience
  • Ability to develop and facilitate training classes and workshops in novel and engaging ways.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a rapidly growing startup environment and adapt training as business needs evolve, change agile
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills, both oral and written
  • Strong track record of collaborating and influencing across functions to ensure execution and strategy are aligned.
  • Strong customer orientation/focus
  • Strong problem-solving skills that can be leveraged for uncovering quick and meaningful solutions to ensure speed of execution and quality are not compromised.
  • Proficiency with CRM/Salesforce platforms as well as Microsoft Office software (e.g. Power Point, Word, Excel)
  • Product or sales management experience
  • Project management experience
