About theposition:

The Associate Director, Career and Learning Pathways is an exciting new position for JFF. The new AD will be housed in the Learning Unit and will be responsible for building out a practice for JFF in developing and implementing career and learning pathways with employers and higher education partners. This leader will help providers of postsecondary education develop programs that lead to high-value jobs and careers for all learners, especially those under-served by current systems. The AD will play a pivotal role for JFF, helping to drive equitable workforce outcomes for students across JFF's postsecondary networks and to expand our networks to non-traditional education and training providers.

The AD will design and deliver a variety of services that incorporate the use of labor market data to inform curriculum and instructional pathways, working with leaders across JFF and with key stakeholders and funders. The AD will develop service engagements tailored to the needs of each client, which may range from mapping workforce competencies and assessments to particular education and training programs, to supporting institutional change efforts for data-driven decision-making across all college programs and services, to statewide change initiatives. The clients for this work will include colleges and state education system leaders in JFF's existing networks; non-traditional providers of postsecondary education; and employers seeking to build the skills of new and existing employees.

What you'll do:

Leadership Development and Change Management:

  • Develop a formal practice for JFF, including methodologies, tools, templates, and standards.
  • Conduct analyses across the organization of best practices, learnings, and data while aligning approach and methodswith JFF's broader strategic priorities and approach.
  • Build a team of cross-organizational leaders and subject experts, including generating a nimble consultant pool, that can serve on a variety of complex deployments with key leaders and projects in the field.

Program Development and Service Delivery

  • Design consulting engagements and deliver services so that postsecondary educators and employers can meet the career development needs of all learners with equity and economic mobility central to design. Services may include mapping curriculum competencies to employer needs; developing strategies for employer engagement and wrap-around supports; supporting postsecondary institutional change efforts; developing systems to integrate use of labor market data in decision-making, applying technological solutions, creating intake and learning assessments, among others.
  • Drive coordination and execution of internal and external project management to realize goals and deliverables for service design and delivery.
  • Support development of data collection and analysis to drive continuous improvement.
  • Develop new service line with a vision for how it will grow and change over time, encompassing new audiences, new sources of funding, and revised service strategies.

Relationship Building and Management

  • Engage stakeholders across JFF along with external partners to develop JFF's methodology for competency development, instructional design services and use of labor market data to drive the content and design of education and training programs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with leaders across JFF and within state educational systems, individual community colleges and other education providers.
  • Partner with workforce agencies and employers to assess job market and learning and training needs and implement competency-based pathways and training models that support job pipelines and employee retention.
  • Develop and deliver persuasive presentations for senior leaders within JFF and in the field.

Business Development

  • With support from the Senior Director and Associate Vice President, build and execute a business development and fundraising strategy for labor market-aligned postsecondary and employer initiatives and partnerships.
  • Identify opportunities for new business that is aligned with JFF's mission and strategies.
  • Meet with potential funders and partners to negotiate grants and contracts.

Who you are:

Experienced Education and Training Practitioner

  • You have prior experience designing and implementing methods and approaches that ensure strong career outcomes for all learners in both traditional and non-traditional postsecondary settings, including approaches that close existing equity gaps.
  • You bring experience leveraging labor market information and collaboration with employers to drive design and implementation of program models, curriculum, instructional design and assessment.
  • You are familiar with college and workforce development data systems and analysis.
  • You are skilled in instructional and training design and non-traditional learning models such as work-based, competency-based and/or online and hybrid learning; you have a nuanced understanding of issues of economic mobility and economic development.
  • You are an expert at defining program outcomes, mapping competencies and assessments to curriculum, and creating learning supports.
  • You are an expert facilitator of short- and long-term engagements and events with numerous stakeholders in complex settings.
  • You are recognized as a dynamic facilitator; you have the ability to persuasively and efficiently build and deliver professional development and other presentations for senior executives, faculty, and more.

Strategic Builder and Analytical Thinker

  • You are an innovative and entrepreneurial systems builder, with experience pushing boundaries and identifying new, revenue-generating opportunities in a fast-paced environment.
  • You know how to connect the dots in order to drive strategy, even when there's ambiguity; you are a curious and adaptive learner, with a willingness to take in new information, perspectives and data to inform your work.
  • You have a track record of success developing service lines, consulting approaches and/or products (tools, resources) that meet a variety of clients' needs.
  • You have experience working in a consulting capacity -- having developed project scopes of work tailored to the specific needs of clients.
  • You have experience engaging with or advising on successful leadership development and change management efforts.

Effective Manager

  • You model inclusive leadership, working effectively with diverse staff, and building and stewarding an organizational culture that embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • You have prior experience managing others and know how to build positive, effective, collaborative cultures and teams wherever you work.
