About theposition:

The Associate Director will be a member of a dynamic team in JFFs Advancement Unit working to fundamentally change existing systems and reimagine new ways for people to access the knowledge, skills, and educational credentials needed to launch, re-enter, or advance in careers and realize their best possible futures. The Associate Director will work in collaboration with JFF staff and external partners to lead projects that support state, regional, and local leadersrepresenting fields such as K-12 and postsecondary education, workforce development, state and local government, business and industry, intermediaries, and community-based organizationsto design, strengthen, and scale solutions that create equitable conditions for and clear paths to economic advancement for all. Examples of some of the work our team engages in can found through exploring the impact stories for Pathways to Prosperity, Building Equitable Pathways, Place-Based Initiatives, and Opportunity Works.

The Associate Director reports to the Senior Director, Advancement and works collaboratively with others across JFF to:

  1. Improve the transitions between, and the alignment and integration of, high school, postsecondary education and training, and work
  2. Ensure that education and workforce development systems and programs are easily navigable and have multiple on- and off-ramps that provide easy access to education and training
  3. Break down structural and policy barriers that impede access to high-quality, career-focused learning that leads to experiences and credentials with value in the labor market

What youll do:

The principal duties and responsibilities of the position include:

Develop strategies, provide technical assistance, and build partnerships to advance JFF's mission (75%)

  • Provide technical assistance and advising to leaders in state and local government, K-12 and postsecondary education, business and industry, intermediaries, and workforce and economic development on JFF services and key strategies (e.g., on dual enrollment, work-based learning, policy and advocacy, and career navigation)
  • Develop and lead complex projects from concept through implementation, ensuring on-time completion of deliverables (including managing timelines, budgets, work plans, program staff, and partners)
  • Work with potential funders and manage relationships with existing funders, collaborating with JFF colleagues to build out, refine, and advance JFFs work in new places and content areas
  • Understand and respond to the challenges that leaders and systems face; armed with that knowledge, conceptualize and develop tools, resources, and strategies to effectively solve problems and eliminate barriers to progress
  • Represent JFF with external constituents, including K-12 and community college leadership, state system leaders, partner organizations, and other stakeholders
  • Facilitate and lead small and large group meetings, trainings, and presentations for diverse stakeholders

Internal Team and Thought Leadership (25%)

  • Manage and support project teams and direct reports, modeling inclusive leadership across the unit andfostering an organizational culture that embraces diversity, equity, and inclusionwhile regularly applying JFF's corevaluesto your work
  • Manage, coordinate, and oversee cross-functional teams and initiatives to meet operating goals
  • Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, and staffing decisions within the unit
  • Research, write, and publish high-quality blogs, briefs, and analytic papers on key topics of interest to the field, influencing policy and practice
  • Contribute to the writing, review, and editing of proposals and external reports

Who you are:

  • You have at least 8 years of progressive leadership experience in a related field, such as K-12 and postsecondary education and training, workforce development, adult education, policy, intermediaries, and community-based organizations
  • You have a track record of success with full-cycle project planning and implementation of multiple projects with competing priorities in matrixed and fast-paced environments, while working both autonomously and collaboratively
  • You are skilled at navigating theintricacies of supporting and managing cross-sector stakeholder groups and partnerships at the local, regional, and statelevels
  • You have demonstrated success advising senior executives and decision makers and get energy from building coalitions and consensus to bridge competing priorities and drive progress. You are equally happy being out front presenting to 200 people and setting up someone else to do so successfully
  • Youre flexible and comfortable with navigating ambiguity, leading without formal authority, and adapting your priorities when a new strategic opportunity presents itself
  • You possess strong strategic and critical thinking skills and an interest in systems-level design and integration
  • Youhavemanaged direct reportsand teams and are committed to providing direct,actionablefeedback to support the teams success
  • You have experience in the successful development of service lines, technical assistance approaches, and/or products (such as tools and resources) that meet a variety of partners needs
  • You are a synthesizer of complex information and can communicate it crisply and directly to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • You possess excellent research and writing skills, including experience generating reports, proposals, tools, and resources
  • You demonstrate a growth mindset and desire to continuously improve in your work
  • You are able and willingto travel to partner sites and external events (up to 30%) once travel safely resumes (please note: JFF staff are not currently traveling due to COVID-19 restrictions and to prioritize the health and safety of our staff.)
