Your role: The Assistant Vice President (AVP) is an exciting opportunity for a business- and social impact-minded, highly-collaborative individual to help build out NYCEDC's cross-sector partnerships. As part of the Partnerships' department, the AVP will develop and manage relationships and partnerships with business, workforce development providers, and academia to advance NYCEDC's priorities across verticals, including urban planning and community development, real asset management, and industry growth (e.g. life sciences, tech, industrial, fashion, cybersecurity, smart cities, clean energy, etc.).

While the AVP will be engaging with a diverse set of stakeholders, topic areas, and project types, his/her main area of focus will be on workforce development. Candidates will identify strategic partnership opportunities to connect EDC's programmatic and industry initiatives with the city's various workforce development providers. Candidates should have deep familiarity with the workforce development sector (e.g. the latest trends, key actors, etc.) and a commitment to increasing access to tech and other growing sectors for underrepresented New Yorkers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Build relationships with workforce development providers, businesses, academia, and philanthropy in order to create awareness of EDC programs and initiatives and identify mutually beneficial collaboration opportunities
  • Design partnership frameworks and proposals based on analysis of a prospective partner organization's mission and their objectives, capacity and alignment with EDC's priorities
  • Help lead on the implementation of the organization's inclusive tech engagement efforts in key cross-departmental projects E.g. Union Square Tech Training Center, Workforce Development Training Grants, etc.
  • Liaison with the Mayor's Office of Workforce Development, Dept. of Small Business Services/Tech Talent Pipeline, and other relevant City agency to ensure alignment on workforce development activities
  • As needed, serve as spokesperson, representative, and ambassador of EDC at workforce development public events and conferences
  • As needed, organize EDC's participation in local and domestic events and conferences
  • Prepare effective written materials, including memos and decks to be used in presentations to EDC senior management and staff, C-level external meetings, and public speaking engagements
  • Maintain project management plans, outlines and schedules for partnerships
  • Be an internal advocate for EDC partners
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required, Graduate degree (Business, Public Policy, Urban Planning, Human Resources) strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in workforce development, project management, partnership creation; experience working in or with government is a plus
  • Understanding of entrepreneurship ecosystems or economic development strategies is a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple projects against tight timelines
  • Strong ability to build relationships and consensus, comfort interfacing with senior officials and business & community leaders
  • Must be a hard-worker and a self-starter, who is both flexible and curious
  • Exceptional business writing and communications skills are required, including public speaking
  • Proven competency in use of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and primary databases such as Microsoft Dynamics
  • New York City resident is required within 180 days of hire
