The Assistant Vice President Surgical Services is a knowledgeable and respected leader in the organization. This position is responsible for the clinical, growth and development, administrative and fiscal operations of Surgical Services which includes Perioperative Services (OR, PACU, SDS, Endoscopy, Sterile Processing, Scheduling and Center for Perioperative Medicine), AtlantiCare Wound Center, AtlantiCare Trauma Program, Musculoskeletal Service Line, Neuroscience Service Line, Anesthesia and APG Specialty Services. The responsibilities for these areas include but are not limited to coordination, development, financial management and strategic planning, and the management of the related Strategic Partnerships.

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) coordinates inpatient and ambulatory patient care activities through collaboration with the onsite management team members, hospital staff and physicians. The AVP is responsible for the overall growth and development of all related services and actively pursues growth opportunities through the development of new programs and services based on community needs and healthcare trends. The AVP seeks out, builds and maintains working relationship with external referring health care organizations, affiliates and individuals to provide ready access to new revenue opportunities as they arise. The AVP acts as a liaison to the community around surgical services and all related services through active participation in community based organizations'' initiatives and development and maintenance of marketing strategies. This position coordinates service delivery by utilizing a collaborative, cost-effective approach to meet the demands of today's healthcare market.

This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.


EDUCATION: Master's Degree in related field required.


EXPERIENCE: Minimum 10 years' experience in a health related industry required, with responsibilities in management and/or program development. Documented record of proven accomplishments within the areas of planning, fiscal management, and clinical practice management required. Solid understanding of TQM, organizational vision and values; highly developed oral and written communication abilities, to include strong interrelationship skills, as well as organizational, analytical, financial and project management skills required.

Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.


Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.


Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, blood borne pathogens, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury. This position requires sitting, standing, walking, stooping and crouching a majority of the workday. Works with such equipment as computer terminal, fax machine, printer and copier.

This position reports to department leadership and supervises incumbents as assigned.
