The Theology Department at Loyola University Maryland invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Theology with a primary specialization in Comparative Theology, to begin July 2023. We are looking for a candidate committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching at a dynamic liberal arts university who can continue a productive research program. Applicants should be familiar both with Christian theology and with another religious tradition, including proficiency in the relevant languages needed for primary research. The successful candidate must have a PhD or equivalent degree completed by the time of employment.

Our department offers a BA in Theology and an MTS (Master of Theological Studies); we also participate in the core curriculum and in several interdisciplinary programs, including Peace & Justice Studies and Catholic Studies. In addition to teaching undergraduate and master's-level courses in their area of specialty, applicants must be able to teach a one-semester undergraduate introductory course in theology, encompassing an introduction to Scripture, soundings in the theological tradition, and contemporary theological questions. We highly value the ability and motivation to collaborate with other faculty members both inside and outside the department.

Through our recently established Office of Equity and Inclusion, we are committed to providing an environment where everyone can learn, grow, and thrive. In accord with its Ignatian values, the University is committed to creating and promoting a community that recognizes the inherent value and dignity of each person. Loyola University Maryland does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, color, national or ethnic origin, age, religion, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, military status, or any other legally protected classification. The University recruits, hires, and promotes in accord with this policy and its core values. Loyola seeks a broad spectrum of candidates, including but not limited to women, people of color, persons with disabilities, sexual minorities, and those with non-traditional career paths. We expect candidates to understand, respect, and actively contribute to the Catholic and Jesuit mission of the University. For more information about our values please visit: https://www.loyola.edu/about/mission.

For more information about this position, and to apply, please go to https://careers.loyola.edu to complete the online application.
