Position Summary

The Assistant Education Director for OB/GYN reports to the OB/GYN Education Director in the Clinical Sciences Department. They will collaborate with the faculty in the Department of Foundational Sciences and Humanities, the Office of Student Affairs, the Office of Medical Education, and the Curriculum Committee, to ensure horizontal and vertical integration of clinical skills education across the continuum of the medical education program.

Who We Are

Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFUMS) is a five-college graduate health sciences university dedicated to the interprofessional education of health and biomedical professionals. Chicago Medical School, the original college of the five, has been educating physicians and furthering biomedical research for more than 100 years. Established in 1912, the founders built a combined medical school and hospital where working men and women could study medicine at night.

As a community-based institution, CMS students experience a variety of clinical environments and models; including, inner-city and suburban hospitals, the James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center that serves U.S. military personnel, as well as private clinics and practice settings. Training focuses on positioning patients at the center of care and as an active member of the healthcare team. During student didactic training, CMS simulation labs allow students to sharpen their interactive and communication skills and develop critical reasoning. Students have early clinical contact, experience a supportive environment, and can count on a faculty dedicated to student success.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Participate in M3 OB/GYN Clerkship teaching activities:
  • Assist with orientation activities, as needed, including lectures, teaching, and/or direct observation of student OB/GYN examinations.
  • Assist in grading formative assignments during the clerkship, including;
    • Grading student history and physicals and providing students with specific feedback.
    • Grading OB/GYN simulation cases for the 3rd year medical class during the entire academic year.
  • Review mid-clerkship feedback and narrative assessments on each students OB/GYN Clerkship for completeness, appropriateness, and consistency.
  • Participate in direct clinical grading of medical students in the clinical rotation.
  • Assist with developing online educational content for the OB/GYN Clerkship.
  • Assist with student remediation and coaching for students who need assistance in meeting clerkship objectives.

Participate in M3 clerkship administrative activities:
  • Assist the OB/GYN Education Director in reviewing and updating the objectives for the clerkship.
  • Collaborate with the OB/GYN Education Director on the completion of clerkship-specific competency maps
  • Organize the OB/GYN Clerkship specialty on D2L with the assistance of the Administrative Coordinator, Medical Education.
  • Assist the Education Director with site comparability monitoring:
  • Meet with Site Directors and OB/GYN Education Director twice annually at the clinical sites to discuss topics relevant to the OB/GYN Clerkship.
  • Participate in the Grading Committee for the clerkship.

Participate in Medical School Activities:
  • Serve on at least one medical school committee as assigned.
  • Attend national educational meetings as appropriate.
  • Assist with developing new M4 OB/GYN electives.
  • Assist the OB/GYN Education Director with specialty advising of M3 & M4 students.
  • Serve as a mentor for student research in the OB/GYN specialty.

Other duties as assigned by the Education Director of OB/GYN.

Required Education & Experience
  • Doctor of Medicine MD, or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine DO with Board Certification in his/her specialty
  • Three or more years clinical patient care experience in his/her specialty
  • Two years of teaching experience at the graduate level in a health professional school
  • Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Understanding of educational pedagogy as it relates to the clinical sciences
  • Demonstrated creative problem solver, with ability to innovative and build consensus around proposed solutions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with proficiency in the use of social networking technology
  • Proven ability to work as a partner with a variety of constituents
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Outgoing personality with proven ability to advocate for change

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with LCME and/or other accrediting bodies
