Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Assistant Director of Workforce Equity & Inclusive Leadership position, job group and level PT-3. The Assistant Director of Workforce Equity & Inclusive Leadership is a full-time, year-round position. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the w ays in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.

This is a hybrid role with partial work completed remotely and some on campus work required

The Office of Workforce Equity & Inclusive Leadership is a department within the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion whose primary role is to provide development opportunities for all faculty and staff members to grow in their understanding of identity and best practices for inclusion, strengthen the work and efficacy of each division to positively impact communities within and beyond the College, and incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) best practices throughout the College in order to promote a culture of intentional inclusion. The Assistant Director of Workforce Equity & Inclusive Leadership will work collaboratively under the Director's leadership to co-create and support the Office's inclusive leadership development programs by leading the development and facilitation of race-based workshops and programming in support of the College's ongoing Anti-Racism Plan; assisting in demographic data collection, analysis, and synthesis to assess and evaluate workforce representation as well as develop workforce engagement in diversity, equity, and inclusion; and developing campus as well as local and regional partnerships to work towards policies and practices that aid the College in hiring, retention, and developing leadership of a diverse workforce. The Assistant Director takes appropriate action to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

Program development and facilitation
Under the guidance of the Director of Workforce Equity & Inclusive Leadership, lead the development and facilitation of race-based workshops and programming in support of the College's ongoing Anti-Racism Plan, including but not limited to:
  • A scaffolded series on racism and anti-racism
  • Racial dialogues
  • Colleague Resource Groups (CRGs) support
  • Establishing and supporting a POC mentoring program with a focus on retention

Demographic data collection, analysis, and synthesis
Assist in demographic data collection, analysis, and synthesis to assess and evaluate workforce representation as well as create and assess metrics pursuant of College- and division-wide DEI and anti-racism goals, including but not limited to:
  • Regularly assess staff demographics using Workday VIBE (Value, Inclusion, Belonging, and Equity)
  • Measure workforce trends at the College, including: Hiring, Leadership positions, Retention
  • Create benchmarks for the Inclusive Hiring Program by conducting market analysis and measuring workforce demographics within specific job sectors

Campus partnerships and program coordination
Develop partnerships with departments and offices on campus to work towards policies and practices that support the ongoing articulation and actualization of divisional DEI goals, and aid the College in hiring, developing leadership, and building the retention of a diverse workforce, including but not limited to:
  • Support divisions in tracking, measuring, and reassessing DEI goals and action items
  • Assist in the support of the increasing number of DEI committees across divisions
  • Collaborate with the Offices of Procurement and Design & Construction to ensure DEI best practices as well as equitable access to facilities (e.g., gender-inclusive restrooms, lactation spaces)
  • Collaborate with the Office of Organizational Development & Engagement to coordinate and conduct focus groups to meet a wide range of needs across the College, ranging from staff survey follow-up to student support

Local and regional partnerships
Develop local and regional partnerships to work towards practices that aid the College in the hiring and retention of a diverse workforce.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of five (5) years related experience
  • Demonstrated program design/evaluation and project management experience
  • Clear understanding of the role diversity, equity, inclusion play in leadership development
  • Self-directed, outcome-oriented, and detail-oriented
  • Ability to problem-solve and adapt when confronted with ambiguity
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication; time management; and organizational skills
  • Commitment to and documented experience successfully implementing initiatives that increase equity and inclusion within a community
  • Success working both independently and collaboratively
  • Experience developing and facilitating workshops and dialogues on race, identity, and other topics related to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Strong relationship management ability
  • Appreciation for data and evaluation processes
  • Able to work occasional weekends or evenings
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, including but not limited to project management

Preferred:
  • Master's degree in organizational development and design, leadership, or training and development
  • Knowledge of private sector diversity, equity, and inclusion performance metrics
