Job Description:Amherst College invites applications for the Arts Coordinator position. The Arts Coordinator is a part time, one-year term, casual position with no benefits. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the w ays in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.
The Arts at Amherst Initiative is a cross-disciplinary partnership whose mission is to foster participation in the arts at Amherst College by supporting collaboration across disciplines, facilitating conversations about the arts within the context of the liberal arts mission, and hosting leading artists from around the world.
The Arts Coordinator supports the work of the Amherst Arts Initiative by (1) facilitating communication among faculty and staff in the arts (2) creating publicity for Amherst Arts Initiative programming and coordinating arts publicity with the arts departments and the college's Office of Communications; and (3) assisting visiting artists hosted by the Amherst Arts Initiative in the Bailey Brown House, the college's residence for visiting artists. The Arts Coordinator takes appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.
The Arts Coordinator is a one- year, part-time position, ideally suited for a recent graduate who is passionate about the arts, and who seeks practical experience in arts administration, artist relations, communications, project management, and cultural programming. The coordinator normally resides in the Bailey Brown arts house on campus, this housing being included with the position if desired.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
Administrative Facilitate meetings
Track expenses
Create annual report
Event management Organize art lunches and soirees
Assist with the production of events and initiatives
Promote student activities
Manager of the Bailey Brown arts house Coordinate and manage the stays of visiting artists
Prepare bedrooms
Launder bedding and towels
Ensure house is clean and in good condition
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelors degree from Amherst College
Excellent interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated time management, project management and organizational skills
Interest in promoting the arts in the life of the college community
Commitment to working with a diverse and inclusive community
Experience creating content for social media
Degree in the arts or experience in the arts
Preferred:
Experience in graphic design or videography
