Position Summary

Information Technology Services at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science invites applications for a full-time Applications Developer II. The Applications Developer II will implement innovative software tools to increase the operational efficiency of the University, and ensure that enterprise-wide software applications meet the changing needs of University departments by designing, creating, implementing, and maintaining applications and reports for these departments.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Work with customers, subject matter experts, applications staff, and Director for Project & Application Services to understand new software application needs.
  • Design, development, code, debug and deploy new software.
  • Perform enhancements to existing software applications across multiple platforms to meet the changing needs of the University.
  • Work with internal business partners to gather requirements, prototyping, and architecting, implementing/updating solutions, building and executing test plans, performing quality reviews, and triaging and fixing operational and production issues.
  • Ensure appropriate application security is in place to protect sensitive information.
  • Prepare, perform, and test database and software application deployments in preproduction environments.
  • Work with DBAs to develop/modify required data structures.
  • Create technical documentation explaining program functions (document code), database structures, and integrations with other applications.
  • Answer questions provide technical guidance/support, and/or training to users on use of developed applications.
  • Answer and follow-up on customer calls forwarded from the Universitys help desk related to applications created and supported. Ensure customer satisfaction throughout this process.
  • Enter and update help desk requests in an issue tracking system
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience
  • Bachelors degree in an Information Technology related field.
  • 5 years of experience in a position with similar duties.
  • Experience producing, supporting, and maintaining enterprise wide, production applications.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of database design and structure, SQL programming knowledge, familiarity with a variety of programming languages and frameworks, familiarity with basic OS concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments and associated resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and translate technical and/or complex concepts into information meaningful to team members and other university personnel.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, to serve a diverse constituency.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy, professionalism, and customer service.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and a variety of Microsoft application development tools.
  • Experience with development and support of Microsoft .NET applications.
  • Practical experience with leveraging APIs.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 6+ years programming experience.
  • Experience with development and support of Ellucian Colleague.
  • Experience as a SharePoint Developer in the analysis, design, hands-on development and delivery of web-based applications.
  • Experience with SharePoint Designer, InfoPath, Web Parts, and workflow creation.
  • Industry certifications preferred.
