Job Summary
The Academic Programs Coordinator in the Committee on Ethnicity, Migration, Rights (EMR) will manage all logistics for program events, faculty initiatives, course coordination, and communications. The staff member will develop and implement processes for academic event planning and guest speakers, and direct faculty and student participation in planning processes. This role will also be responsible for website management, the printed course catalog, designing annual reports, event publicity, and EMR social media accounts. This role has supervisory responsibilities for student workers and temporary or part-time staff.

Position Description
Event Management: Develop and implement processes for event planning, including faculty and working group coordinator involvement; supervise student employees initiating or assisting with events and publicity; consult with faculty on logistics related to their initiatives; manage co-sponsorships; provide on-site management of event logistics.

Course Coordination: Develop and implement processes for compiling course information; manage course scheduling, listing, and cross-listing in my.harvard; ensure EMR's compliance with registrar policies regarding schedule balancing and negotiate conflicts; coordinate faculty classroom requests; assist the Administrative and Program Director with compiling courses to count for EMR, and with updates and troubleshooting in Academic Advising Reports.

Publications: Design semi-annual course catalogs for printed distribution; design annual report layout and coordinate content with Chair and Administrative and Program Director.

Communications: Manage the overhaul of EMR's website and its ongoing content; negotiate with vendors and research policies and best practices for accessibility; direct EMR's social media strategy and presence; compose and send EMR's weekly newsletter; manage EMR listservs (program and Working Groups); publicize events to appropriate audiences within and beyond Harvard.

Supportive Responsibilities: Contribute to program-wide efforts and collaborate with colleagues in running and attending outreach events; faculty coordination and support; grant and prize administration; seeking and managing event co-sponsorships; purchasing/procurement in support of program activities; and training student interns, coordinators, and assistants.


Basic Qualifications
5 years of administrative or other relevant experience.


Additional Qualifications and Skills
Experience in higher education administration and/or management, bachelor's degree.
Strong time management and organizational skills; ability to define and structure work for self and others; excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to adapt tone and content for a variety of contexts and audiences.
Experience with graphic or promotional design.
