Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Academic Department Coordinator-Supervisor position. The Academic Department Coordinator - Supervisor is a full-time, year-round position, job group and level AO-5. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the w ays in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.

The Academic Department Coordinator supports the administrative and logistical efforts of the English Department. Serves as liaison to the diverse campus community, ensures the department office operates efficiently, maintains files and office supplies, responds to inquiries, manages personnel procedures, manages correspondence, and manages the budget and financial processes.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee the department budget and three restricted funds, pay bills, maintain financial records, and supervise student payroll. Use the corporate purchasing card and manage transactions in Workday . Write the Department's budget request to the Director of Budget and Analysis. Organize requests for funding to be considered by the English Department Finance Committee. Write the annual letters to donors who endowed the restricted funds.
  • Assist the Department Chair in personnel matters including searches and reappointment, tenure, and promotion cases.
  • Assist the faculty with coordinating guest speakers, class trips, travel, housing, purchases, and reimbursements.
  • Assist Director of Studies by gathering and organizing all information for the English section of the College catalog. Maintain detailed lists of all course offerings. Organize course meeting time information for the department and the Registrar's office.
  • Responsibilities to Film Studies including support for the annual film series and managing the department film collection.
  • Perform administrative support duties including ordering supplies and maintaining equipment. Serve as the Emergency Preparedness departmental liaison.

  • Associate's degree or equivalent training and/or education
  • 3 years of related experience
  • Strong interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills including the ability to exercise diplomacy
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask
  • Attention to detail and ability to function with accuracy
  • Ability to take initiative, and work independently and collaboratively
  • Experience or commitment to working with a diverse community

  • Bachelor's degree
