Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the 50th Reunion Programs Manager position. The 50th Reunion Programs Manager is a casual, part-time, non-benefited position. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the w ays in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.

This is a full time (35 hr./wk.) casual, temporary position from January 4, 2022, to June 15, 2022. There is a potential for a hybrid work schedule with some portion of hours completed remotely. This position requires full-time work in-person May 16 through June 10, 2022. The 50th Reunion Programs Manager will take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and will participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

The 50th Reunion Programs Manager will partner with Alumni and Parent Programs staff to plan and implement Reunion 2022 for the 50th Reunion Classes and older (55th, 60th, 65th, 70th). They will work with eight post-50th alumni classes whose in-person reunions were canceled due to COVID to plan class dinners for Fall 2022. They will also work with volunteers in a portfolio of classes managing alumni communications and assist others on the Alumni and Parent Programs team with projects as needed, advancing the mission of Alumni and Parent Programs, building community and creating connections among Amherst College alumni, with one another and with the College.

Key Responsibilities
Event Planning & Execution
  • Plans, implements, and oversees activities and events relating to assigned Reunion class events- including eight alumni class dinners.
  • Participates as a member of the Alumni and Parent Programs team designing and building successful programs and events.
  • Manages relationships with campus partners and secures resources for programs.
  • Coordinates communications strategies, in collaboration with Advancement Communications.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with colleagues across Advancement (and the college) to ensure smooth and full communication around events and initiatives

Class & Volunteer Management
  • Serves as the key contact for alumni in a portfolio of classes including those in the 50th cycle- responding to inquiries, addressing concerns, and supporting class programming.
  • Manages and motivates class volunteers.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with colleagues across Advancement and the College including but not limited to; the Amherst Fund, planned and major gifts and Advancement Communications, to ensure the highest level of class engagement and participation and philanthropy.
  • Drafts correspondence and initiates communications with students, staff, faculty and administration, and as well as external audiences including alumni and vendors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required
  • 5 or more years of related experience including event planning and volunteer management
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Exceptional customer service, motivational, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and collaboratively
  • Attention to detail
  • Proficient in MS Access, Excel, and Word; and ability to learn new software
  • Occasional evening hours required for class planning meetings.
  • Ability to work on campus full-time for Reunion, and in weeks leading to Reunion, May 16, 2022 to June 10, 2022

Preferred
  • Higher Education and/or non-profit experience
